We stayed in Riding Cottage which is next to the main farmhouse for 1 week during the October school break. The Cottage was very clean and extremely well appointed with everything you could want from a holiday let. The bathrooms were very luxurious with toiletries from the White Company and robes. On arrival we were greeted with a freshly made cake which Louise the owner had made for us. Louise had checked our dietary requirements beforehand and she makes cakes to cater for all requirements. Breakfasts are available in the farmhouse and look sumptuous. From the farm yard you can see The Angel of the North and Newcastle City. However, the farm is in a very quiet and peaceful setting even thought it’s only 15 minutes from Newcastle and Durham and 8 minutes from Beamish. If you are going to Beamish Louise will give you vouchers for 25% off. Louise and Angus who run the farm and cottages are incredibly nice and helpful and the location and cottages are tremendous. We will be back !

Just returned from a 3 day weekend at Riding Farm Cottages and it was a fantastic stay. Stayed with 3 girls, from 1st - 3rd December. Pros and (small) cons listed below:

Pros:
- Warmly greeted by Angus - owner of Riding Farm Cottages. Checked in and was quickly shown to our cottages out from the cold!
- The cottage was lovely and so homey. A fire was lit making the cottage warm and cosy (which was amazing as it was 2 degrees when we arrived in Newcastle!). Radiators were also available throughout the house.
- Cottage was clean and very spacious, with a good sized kitchen and dining area.
- Sofas in the living area were so comfortable. Spent hours having chats downstairs with cups of teas not wanting to move!
- Lots of crockery, pots, plates and pans making it easy to cook meals.
- A freshly made Victoria sponge was waiting for us on arrival! Also had biscuits to tuck into with tea, coffee sugar (etc) condiments available.
- Upstairs were two bedrooms, one a large double and the other a good sized twin room - both en-suit.
- Double bedroom had a large dresser & mirror. This was extremely helpful with 2-4 girls getting ready with lots of makeup and accessories everywhere. Room also had a spacious wardrobe (didn’t use this as we were there for only 2 nights).
- I stayed in the double and found the bed comfortable. I often struggle to sleep when travelling or staying away from home, but I slept like a log in Riding Farm Cottages! Was advised by my 2 friends staying in the twin room that their beds were also extremely comfortable.
- Bathroom in the double room was a good size. Only a shower was available.
- Twin room had a full bathroom suit with a shower and bath tub.
- Towels, hand towels, bath/floor mats were all available.
- TV available in the living room and both bedrooms.

Cons:
- Shower in the double room unfortunately didn’t work properly. It was an electric shower so I thought it would be fairly easy to use. But it was either scalding hot or extremely cold even with adjusting the water temperature. I had to use the shower in the twin room. We didn’t want to make a fuss so we didn’t report it.
- Microwave timer screen didn’t work properly so you’re unable to heat food up on a timer (not a huge issue).
- Kettle lead is quite short so was close to the electrical fuse. Some potential to be hazardous when kettle gets to boiling point and splutters out small droplets of water.

Our stay was amazing and I didn’t want to list any cons, so I nit-picked in order to give an overall fair review. I would recommend Riding Farm Cottages to everyone (family trips, girls weekends, couple’s weekend). It’s a great option if you don’t want to stay in the centre of Newcastle and prefer somewhere quieter with beautiful scenery. It’s about a 10 minute drive to the Sainsbury’s in Gateshead and about 20 minutes to Newcastle town centre.

Lastly:
We were unable to start a fire once it burnt out. We found Angus and he kindly got us some splint wood and helped us re-light it (which he didn’t have to do). This says so much about Angus and Louise’s hospitable nature and the passion they put into the cottages. It doesn’t feel like a “hotel” or “accommodation”. It honestly feels like you are staying in a friend’s home. Worth every penny and I would definitely return.

We do wish you had let us know about the issues you had when you where staying with us, we do mean it when we say if there is anything we can do just give us a shout!
The shower has been resolved with a new filter only took 5 minutes to do.
Kettle has a longer lead just tucked underneath - have now released it.
The microwave has better instructions .
Thank you for bringing these to our attention
Look forward to welcoming you back again to Riding Farm Cottages soon
Kind regards
Angus and Louise

We booked a 3-night weekend stay in Riding Cottage on Riding Farm and weren't disappointed. Everything you need is provided, with ample comfortable chairs and a log burner to give that extra cosyness, especially on cold winter nights as it was when we were there. The accommodation is spacious, immaculate and well thought out and both bedrooms having their own private bathrooms is a bonus when more than 2 couples are residing. The location of Riding Farm Cottages is ideal for visiting Beamish Museum which we did and vouchers giving 25% off the ticket price per person provided by the owners was much appreciated, as we spent 2 days at the museum and still did not see everything. (The tickets are valid for 12 months so you can visit Beamish again and again!) We loved our stay so much that we are planning to go back to Riding Cottage and to visit Beamish again next year. We can thoroughly recommend a stay at Riding Farm Cottages. Great accommodation, great location and great hospitality. We even had a home-baked cake awaiting us when we arrived. We were also lucky enough to see a family of reindeer with their handlers who were using the farm as a stopover on their way to Middlesborough. Such a sight to see especially at this festive time of year and to be given the opportunity to see reindeer up close made it extra special.

Many thanks
Mark F

We had booked two rooms for bed and breakfast, when we got there Louise the owner said did we want to stay in one of the cottages instead, so that is what we chose to do as they were lovely, and then in the morning we went into the farmhouse for breakfast. There was a good menu to choose from and plenty of it. Louise is a great hostess made you feel so welcome and like one of the family.
We stayed in the granary barn loved it. Beds were comfortable, lovely views. We,will definitely be going back as there is so much to do in that part of the country Durham is lovely and we will definitely be going back to riding farm.

Room Tip: Just go and visit and you will be as surprised as we were.
