Stayed here this week whilst in Gateshead on business. Approaching via "the angel" (well worth a look), Low Fell seemed a bit lacklustre. Having arrived, it appears someone transported Eslington Villa there via a time space interface.
This place is awesome !. Only 18 rooms, and if you are in the roof space it's a good climb !. Excellently presented and clean, the rooms was a joy in every way except for the window which had a white blind and no curtains....next morning, 5am sunrise, bright light, bleary eyes, not good !.
Ate in the restaurant which was excellent. I am no real fan of nouvelle minimalist meals served on big plates, but having said that the courses were beautifully prepared and presented and did taste as good as they looked. I really coUld have eaten more - luckily the left over French bread starter mopped up the amazing beef cheek sauce....sorry, but it WAS that good !. By contrast, the full English next morning was a good sized portion and again, wonderfully presented. One criticism ? - no decent proper ale; just two fizzy lagers or John Smiths.....no thanks !.
