The walk along the quayside and across the Millenium Bridge was fantastic however the Baltic was to all intents empty - there as one exhibition with a few pieces which was uninspiring. The highlights were the viewing area at the top of the building and the friendly and very helpful staff in the well stocked shop. Would advise checking what exhibitions there are before visiting.

I feel for the people of Tyneside as I assume it is they who are paying for this place - and probably in vast amounts. There is universe of difference between an attractive, imaginative and skillfully put together sculpture or painting and a meaningless, technically vacant, drab 'thing' plonked into a gallery just for the sake of putting something there. The Baltic exhibits fall into the latter category. If that was art that I saw when I went to the Baltic last week then so is the dust on top of my telly. I have seen plenty of modern art which is evocative, interesting and clever, but none of it is in the Baltic.

Absolute rubbish, this place. It might appeal to the pseuds who love this sort of thing but it was completely lost on me. I could hardly believe the things that were in the galleries.

I asked at the hotel what the locals thought of it and the receptionist and she said they thought it was full of rubbish. Sensible girl.

You can feel your life slipping away in this place. Avoid.

On holiday in the north east we went into Newcastle on a warm and sunny day to see the Blinking Bridge - which is well worth a visit (try and catch the moving times). The Baltic has been wonderfully renovated and the river/quay views from each floor are spectacular. The exhibition was unusual but I think art is a personal experience. The Sage next door is all lit up at night. Staff at the Baltic very helpful, friendly and informative. It's worth a visit for the lovely geordie accent alone!!

I'm afraid it's the king new clothes....... The most interesting part of this experience was the building itself... Fantastic... absolutely fantastic and the true star of the show..... I asked if a box covering light switches was an exhibit or part of the building and the guide lode puzzled that I should even think it was in doubt.... Silly of me really as it was better than the exhibits......
