“Pity Prague is so expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

I stayed 4 nights over the May Bank Holiday w/end, and was entirely satisfied with the hotel. They had no control over the behaviour of the stag and hen parties, who woke me at 3:20 am and 5am each night. Bar closed at 3am, can only presume some place in town closed later... To be fair, the parties were not particularly rowdy. Just loud, going to bed.
Rooms very nice, mine had a view over towards Newcastle across the Tyne with a squint towards the Minellium Bridge. Bed firm but not uncomfortable, water hot and unlimited, free WIFI for a basic service.
Locals very friendly and helpful. Would move to Newcastle tomorrow but for family demands.

This Hotel is situated at the side of the River Tyne in Gateshead, but it is only a short walk from the Millenium Bridge and so you can walk into Newcastle itself within a few minutes. The bridge is beautifully lit up in various ‘rainbow’ colours and effects after nightfall, and well worth watching.

There is a television programme on Channel 4 in the U. K. at various times entitled ‘Four-In-A-Bed’. In this programme, each week four sets of Bed & Breakfast owners (usually couples) spend a night in each B & B and then rate it accordingly for various standards. They then pay the percentage of the ‘Asking Rate’ that they think it is worth, and the establishment each week with the highest percentage gets a plaque to display in their B & B. Some of the comments made are highly critical for even small things, and of course these are often used by the others to pay a low rate for their rooms in the hope of winning.

I thought I would be different for this Review and base this on the questions asked in the programme. I did not subject this Hotel to a full ‘Four-In-A-Bed’ style examination (like pulling the beds apart to check for hairs, checking on the top of units for dust, etc.), but the following will give an overview of what I found at the Jury’s Inn Gateshead Quays. In the television programme the contestants rate each section out of 10, but I have decided not to use this part of the system. My comments and the overall ratings will be sufficient.

I was travelling with a group of 51 other people on a Coach Holiday, but the views expressed here are purely my own.

HOW WERE YOUR HOSTS AT THE JURY’S INN, GATESHEAD?

Friendly welcome at Reception when we arrived, and did not have to wait long to check-in. All the Waiters and Waitresses, Cleaning Staff, etc. were very pleasant, helpful and attentive. I could not fault this.

HOW CLEAN WAS JURY’S INN, GATESHEAD?

There were a few specks of dust, mainly on the television stand, but nothing more than would be found in the average home. Nothing to complain about.

HOW WERE THE FACILITIES AT JURY’S INN, GATESHEAD?

Excellent! Plenty of hot water for bathing and showering. Good water pressure. Bath towels, hand towels and Bath Mat were clean and soft. Good sized bathroom. The bottles of complimentary toiletries (shampoo, handwash and shower gel) were sensibly firmly fixed in holders to prevent them from being removed. The bath was ‘full size’ – not like several Hotels who have only ½ or ¾ length baths so that it is virtually impossible to lay down. The Lifts were very fast, and no long waits even at busy times.

HOW DID YOU SLEEP AT JURY’S INN, GATESHEAD?

Bedding clean, firm mattress – but very comfortable. How did I sleep? Like a log! No external or internal noise to disturb sleep.

HOW WAS THE FOOD AT JURY’S INN, GATESHEAD?

Being in a large party of 50+ we had a separate Menu for the Dinner with a limited selection and so I cannot therefore comment on the ‘normal’ Menu, but if ours was anything to go by it is excellent. This is waiter / waitress service.

Breakfast is self-service Buffet style which was also excellent with plenty of choice from either the cooked or Continental range. The items were constantly being topped up, and the tables were being cleared and re-laid quickly when these had been vacated. The staff coped well under pressure, and did not appear flustered or unhappy in their work.

WOULD YOU STAY HERE AGAIN?

YES definitely!

Mention has been made in many other Reviews of this Hotel about the lack of sufficient car parking. I appreciate that this may be inconvenient or an annoyance to some people, but due to limited space on site this is not at all unusual in many cities and towns where hotels are situated in or near the main areas. There is often little or no car parking available on-site. The ‘Home Page’ for this Hotel on the website clearly states that there is only very limited parking, and so this should not come as a surprise. I appreciate that it did not affect me at this time as I was travelling with a coach party, but I have experienced this situation many times before and have accepted it without complaint. Most nights during my stay at this Hotel there appeared to be at least one spare parking space, but of course this may not always be the case.

I booked a stag weekend in newcastle and used this hotel. We paid 60 each for 2 nights and we were all shocked at how little we paid for such a great hotel. Rooms were really nice and clean and the bar area was fantastic. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a hotel that doesnt cost the earth but is really nice then this is the hotel to choose. The weekend was great and it was partly down to the hotel and staff.

Thanks to all

The position of this hotel is excellent: close to the millinium Bridge..big tick.. In addition, the hotel is clean and modern with professional staff and good amenities..another tick.
So why don't I give it a better rating? Well, Jurys has targeted the middle market and does not pretend to be anything else. What they do, they do very well, but on the scale of things the hotel chains offers comfortable rooms, average food and nice facilities. In fact, this was a difficult rating to give...in honesty, the hotel was good, but the next step up in the ratings goes from Average to Very Good...sorry, it was better than average, but I've certainly stayed in better and much better hotels...the gap was too big for the higher rating.

Enjoyed the stay (one night). Nice located along river Tyne.
Within short walking distance from Millenium bridge.
Spacy rooms. Breakfast was OK. Also enjoyed drinks in the bar after returning from city center !
If you come by car, there is a large parkingplace next to the hotel.
