Hilton Newcastle Gateshead
Ranked #7 of 20 Hotels in Gateshead
Certificate of Excellence

I`m a great fan of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne although the Hilton Hotel in this case is over the river Tyne in Gateshead. Fear not, you are still at the heart of the area and benefit from a somewhat quieter location of the Hilton.
For the biggest wow factor do your level best to get a room with a river view where the panorama of
Newcastle unfolds before you you. The river with its bridges, the Quaysides historic buildings, the high town with trains and bridges. You do have to enjoy city panoramas to appreciate what I`m saying.
The Hilton is very comfortable as to be expected from the Hilton brand, no dissapointments. Be prepared to pay for a little luxury whilst in the company of popstars, footballers, actors and celebrities mixing comfortably city visitors. Expect the unexpected and enjoy a treat, you deserve it.

Room Tip: River view rooms are slightly more noisey than Gatehead side rooms but the river views are stunning

Stayed as a couple for one night in this modern, hard to fault hotel, registered when booking for a little extra( £) to upgrade room if available on check in, this was worthwhile and we did get the upgrade to a lovely room with floor to ceiling glass windows and an excellent view of the river, bridges, quayside and the Sage. I would book this type of room again. As we were visiting the Sage this hotel is very close really convienient. We also walked into Newcastle and found the walk fairly easy, there is however a bus frequently from outside the Sage going to the city centre. The hotel was spotless, the staff helpful and friendly. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment, there is a lot of choice of restaurants and bars nearby. Visited the pool, sauna and steam room all very good the pool is large, but there appears to be no shallow area. I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel, would recommend and also return.

Room Tip: I would pay extra again for a room with a view of the river, well worth it.

Tired after a long journey, I groaned when I arrived as there were 9 people queuing to check in and only one person on duty, and to say the process per person was slow is an understatement.
After eventually being attended to. I dumped my stuff in my room. To be fair the rooms were clean and a decent size, but so they should be. I then went downstairs to meet some colleagues in the bar area and ordered them a drink. 30 minutes later, still waiting for the drink, and after numerous enquiries, it transpired our order had been lost/forgotten. Not a great start, do I need to go on? other than to say breakfast was very average.

Has Michael O'Leary taken over the Hilton? I would not be surprised!

Spent 2 nights here, when I arrived was, told not booked in, this was a fault with my company and not the hotel, this was quickly sorted out and my room was of a great standard. It has to be said that the view from the bar was incredible and after a little sweet talking my second night was spent in a different room with a view of the bridge.

Breakfast was buffet style with good choice. Sadly evening meal was a let down for all four of us stopping. Maybe that was just us, but did not spoil the stay. Conference facilities were of a great standard.

Look forward,to,staying again.

This hotel is epic. On the South Bank of the river Tyne just across from the city center overlooking the low bridge this hotel provided one of the most enjoyable nights I have had in any hotel world wide.

Starting with reception the feeling of being in the hands of professionals never went away. At all times the staff were courteous, professional and helpful without being intrusive or giving the impression that they're "just" doing their job.

Dinner in the restaurant was a surprise. Having chosen to eat at the busiest time of the evening on a busy night I could understand if the service was under strain but I can only commend the restaurant staff for seamless service delivering a memorable meal. Most enjoyable.

My only regret is that I didn't stay a second night but I will return.

I rarely provide reviews for hotels and dont like hotels that send emails asking for them. I offer this review spontaneously after a great interesting evening and a superb nights sleep.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the river

Spent a couple of nights at Bottle Bank based on previous experience. We like this hotel and its in a great location, and has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Upgraded to a river view room which is worth the extra money. Its only a short (and safe) walk into the City Centre with plenty of bars and restaurants close by. Rooms are well equipped and clean and on the whole quiet, although our aircon did sound a little grumpy at times. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout, and breakfast was of a good standard with plenty to choose from. Only minor gripe is that you have to pay for wi-fi, but the bottled water is complimentary! Would certainly stay again!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a river view - its worth it.
