“New Year's Eve”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

This is our 2nd trip as a party of six for New Year's Eve ball. Check in was fast and efficient. 2 couples were given an executive room on the 5th floor, the other couple of our party were on the 2nd floor. Once we had checked in we all met in the bar which has stunning views across the river. I ordered drinks for four of our party , was told they would be bought over , which they were after about 10 mins, 3 alcoholic drinks and one coffee we'll lets just say extortionate prices..... One medium size cup of coffee £4.50 !!
The New Year's Eve ball took a little while to get going, however good time had by all, the food was average, nothing to write home about but tasty, the band/entertainment in my view were not very good at all.
For the toast 2 of our party had 1x jack Daniels and coke, and 1 x double baileys £21.00 , the other 4 of us had 4 x Havana 7 rum ( doubles) I dare not ask how much they cost.
Overall an extremely good night, fair service by banqueting staff, however extortionate drinks prices put bit of a dampner on our night!!!

We felt that this hotel should be a large luxury hotel on reality we found it to be a large motel ! On entering the lobby area you can feel the emptyness of this hotel. The suites are nicely situated facing the river Tyne but the fountain facing rooms face the hotel arrival area. Breakfast typical buffet fare -: Most of the hot breakfast left for some time if the turn over is slow ! Typical motel service.

For a first-time vistor to Newcastle (and to UK!), a night here was an impeccable experience.

1) A grand view of the river and town (from the room and lobby) was just astounding!

2) Walkable to a nice portfolios of retaurants and bars along the river. (although they seemed "too sophisticated" but they definitely fit our business dining objectives)

3) I did not have any chance to get in touch with the serive aspect of the hotel (incl. breakfast, staff, gym etc) but I did not come across any unpleasant issue.

Overall, this should be one of your top options for a nice business/family outings especially if you wish to leave Newcastle with a great impression.

No wonder my host (UK government) booked this hotel for us!

What an amazing well run hotel, great check-in and lovely room overlooking the river, My friend and I visited for a relaxing overnight spa experience as we visit somewhere different every year for an xmas treat.
We had our treatments at the ocean rooms spa in the basement of the Hilton, here we had the most amazing experience. We had the ocean rooms face and body ritual which was deeply relaxing. The therapist really listened to my concerns and gave me by far the best massage I have ever had, the facial was amazing too, they used Elemis products which smelled amazing and left our skin glowing. After a dip in the jacuzzi we went up to the bar and had a gin and tonic to finish the day. Service was also amazing,
Thank you Hilton Newcastle for an amazing time, special thanks to the girls at the spa.
We will be back in April as we cant wait till the end of the year to have this again.

Room Tip: ask for a room over looking river

Excellent hotel - I recommend you pay the extra for a river view - it is well worth it - we were quite happy sitting in our room watch the Quayside Food in restaurant also very good - no need to go elsewhere and with the view who would want to The loacation couldn't be better as within walking distance of central Newcastle

Visited the Spa at the Hilton Gateshead with a friend for a much anticipated spa day. We were directed to the lift and told to go to the lower ground. When we arrived the spa reception appeared to be a make shift table with a few Elemis products in the middle of a corridor where the business centre is located, not very inviting or professional.

Was told to arrive for 11, which we did but didn't realise our treatments had been booked for 11 meaning by the time we'd completed the health questionnaire we had lost 10 minutes of our treatment time! My therapist took me to a tiny cupboard of a room inside the busy gym, didn't inform me what was going on -i thought i'd be able to go to the changing rooms to get changed into a robe and slippers and use the bathroom but was told to undress inside the room and lay on the bed, when I asked to use the bathroom the therapist tutted, looked at the clock as if to say- 'your time your wasting!' No robe or slippers given or a drink of any kind. Pedicure literally consisted of filing toenails and applying one coat of colour no base or top coat no cuticle treatment or hard skin removal. Massage was ok, but treatment was finished by 1150 so missed a good 20 minutes. All I could hear was someone pounding away on a treadmill, room was too cold, uncomfortable and not in the slightest bit relaxing. She did not ask if the pressure of massage was ok or if the room was warm enough. I then had to walk through the gym wrapped in a towel to find the pool... Whole thing was a joke and if I had paid the hilton directly I would of been asking for my money back immediately, no wonder they use groupon to lure naive customers.

Will not be returning!

Dear vickijridley

Many thanks for your feedback on your spa experience at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead.

The Spa is operated by The Ocean Rooms Spa and not the hotel, so I am forwarding on your comments to them. Please accept our apologies on their behalf.

Kind regards

Very very helpful staff!
Amazing view over the bridge.
Rooms come with everything you need. Worth paying £15 for the room upgrade for the view and extra amenities.

Only negative comments are the bar is expensive and the carpark is a bit pricey.

Definitely staying here again!!

Great weekend
