I booked Hilton Gateshead for a suprise for our anniversary. At time of booking i requested a river view room due to it being a special occasion.Further to this when i received an email offering us an upgrade to a delux room with river view if i paid a supplement i ordered this.when we arrived we were told r room was 120 which did not have the view id twice requested,we had a view of a concrete roof at other side of hotel.although room was fine this was disappointing.staff at both restaurant and bar were fantasic, eager to please and although we found drinks very expensive were serverd with a smile. The views from the bar are excellent. We paid to eat dinner at the hotel too. This was lovely and well worth booking staff again were super although some items on the menu required you to pay a supplement. Rooms were basic but clean however sleep quality wasnt brilliant.pillows were extremly hard and uncomfortable we ended up trying to sleep without using a pillow.the room was also hot and air conditioning, which was fine through the day,was too noisy to leave on at night making room too hot to sleep properly.overall hotel was fine, rooms could be better for the amount charged, food and staff lovely but drinks and food if you dont order when you book are highly overpriced(£28 for cheapest bottle of wine -£4:80 for a pint. £12for an omelette)would stay here again if offered a package otherwise do think its expensive for what you get.

This was our first visit to Newcastle (Gateshead) but one of many to a Hilton hotel. As always we found everything excellent from reception to dining to accommodation! Even though the whole of the Aussie athletics team fen-route to the Commonwealth Games arrived here at the same time as us we had no problems checking in! Our room (133) overlooked the Tyne Bridge and out over the whole of the city it was amazing. I am partly disabled and in a wheelchair which proved to be no problem at all anywhere in the hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The food was great and the staff kind and attentive. Thanks especially to Hannah (and her dining room staff) for my surprise 70th birthday treats!. We hope to come back here in the very near future as there are lots of places yet to explore.

Room Tip: Our room (133 on first floor) overlooked the city and river with all its famous bridges. It was also...

We stayed for a weekend in Newcastle, the hotel was smart and clean and the staff were helpful, I just expected more! When you here the Hilton name you expect something a bit special, and this wasn't , there was no wow factor. We had to pay extra for parking and extra for breakfast, I have stayed it better hotels for a lot less than we paid here.

We stayed 1 night before joining cruise to Norway. The hotel was more than adequate for our needs and very comfortable. The breakfast was very good but should be included in price. That was my only complaint that the cost of the hotel is high enough and should be breakfast inclusive

Having an executive suite for £275 per night with a view of the Tyne and the City proved to be the best stay in any hotel in the UK I have experienced. Unfortunately we never had a chance to try breakfast or the spa and fitness centre but the staff were all great and made the stay really special. Highly recommended if you are looking for something for a special occasion.

We paid £168 for two seats at a black tie evening awards ceremony and still had to pay £6 to park the car for 5 hours. If we had stayed overnight, the parking charge would have been £12. Disgraceful.

We are both vegetarians so our starter was a few leaves and a piece of tomato, the main course was ravioli in a cream sauce that looked and tasted as if it was from a supermarket. The dessert was a reasonable attempt at an apple tart but with very mediocre wine and slow service, there is no way this meal was worth £84 each

To cap it all, at 11.00pm when it was time to leave with our award, the cloakroom was locked up so it took us 20 minutes to find someone who could retrieve our coats. Ridiculous

Dear Philip N

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent visit to Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, whilst attending an event.

We were obviously disappointed to learn that certain aspects did not live up to your expectations.

Unfortunately we do not own the car park and therefore the prices are not dictated by the hotel, but are clearly displayed upon entry to the car park and on our website. Please accept our apologies if this was not clear when purchasing your ticket and your comments will be shared with the organiser of the event. Your feedback regarding the vegetarian options will also be fed back, as the organiser chooses the menu after attending a menu tasting.

Thank you for your comments regarding the cloak room and this will be given to our operational team as this should have been manned and offer our sincere apologies for this. Feedback from our guests enable us to continually improve and exceed our standards.

Kind regards

We weren't staying in the hotel but went for afternoon tea . We had a table overlooking the bridges and river . There was only one other table occupied . There is a choice of tea and gluten free, healthy , champagne or traditional afternoon tea . Children's tea is also served . We all chose traditional afternoon tea . First came a pate canapé, then a mango sorbet . The sandwiches were freshly made , smoked salmon, egg mayo, cream cheese & cucumber , tuna and ham . Choice of cheese , fruit or plain scone , warmed . Fresh cream , jam and berries . 3 types of little cakes and three more pots of tea . Pleasant service and we all thought it was worth £12 .95 each , it was delicious .
