Description: The Bank Restaurant and Bar is set in the former Grade 2 listed Lloyds Bank building in the heart of Low Fell high. In November 1841 Tomas Wilson, a poet of considerable repute in Gateshead, opened the Literary Rooms on Durham Road. Created by architect Thomas Oliver of Newcastle and build by Thomas Liddell of Lowfell, the upper section of the building was used as a school for the local children until the opening of a new school on a site at Kells Lane in 1895.The building was taken over by Lloyds Bank which closed in the late 1990's. The Building has now been recently refurbished and opened as The Bank Restaurant and Bar. Providing a New Chef, New Menu and great staff.

Just had lunch in The Bank Bar Bistro, Low Fell. Absolutely lovely. We had soup & Lamb 3 ways. Presentation & Flavours were exceptional. We could have been in a 3 Star Michelin Restaurant. If I didn't know better. We were greeted & hosted by Remie she made us feel really welcome & couldn't do enough.
Definitely coming back here.

“SUPER FOOD”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014 via mobile

Haven't been here for a while and popped in for lunch. They have a good value set lunch menu but I opted for dishes from the main menu and I wasn't disappointed.
The quality and presentation of the food was outstanding and I have added a couple of pictures. Blue swimmer crab to start was delicious at £5.95 and the main of red mullet with chargrilled octopus was superb at £10.95. Highly recommended and the waiter who served me was swift and efficient. So why not 5 stars? Well, that was down to the young lad staff member who was talking to a rep as I came in but left me standing there like a spare part for a good few minutes. A lot of people at that point would have turned and walked out.

“Good Sunday Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

I have visited The Bank for Brunch and Sunday Lunch in the last month and both experiences have been very good. Brunch was very good value for money with a drink included in the price, fresh and very tasty. Sunday lunch was also very good - on a par with other good lunches in the area - and better than or last visit to Cafe 21! We had starters or soup, salad and black pudding and mains of beef, lamb and chicken - beef was perfectly cooked, tender and all the veg was perfectly cooked - no soggy veg! £12.95 for 2 courses was excellent value we felt.

Will be back again soon!

“Wont be back”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

Havent ate at the bank since the change of owners, but decided to try last night as didnt want to travel into newcastle!

Instead of going into the many things that were wrong with the service last night I will just say... I wont be back, what a shame!

I will take my business elsewhere!

“Outstanding food, service and atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

We went to try the fantastic 7 course "Taster" menu and were blown away with the quality of the food and service. We went after hearing very good reports and despite expecting a lot, we still came away very impressed. The venue itself is extremely well presented and tastefully decorated, the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly and every course was absolutely delicious, as were the cocktails!!!

We will definitely be going back and can't recommend it highly enough, it's definitely one of the highlights of the area and great value for money.
