“Great stay again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from 2 nights here. We stated last year with the same travel zoo deal and again we weren't disappointed. What great value for money. Fabulous location with lovely views of the river. Really friendly and helpful staff and comfortable rooms in a charming old pub. Would definitely recommend it and we plan to visit every year from now on .

We were a party of seven with six of us on a Travelzoo Deal, we were met by Peter who was very helpful and informative. The food on the first night (the deal night) was wonderful, breakfast the following day was so good it lasted us till supper. The food on the second night was also excellent as was the second breakfast. The bar was proper, like a local pub should be with a nice wood burner. and good beer. All the staff were great and I can't wait for an opportunity to stay there again. The local area is fabulous, we caught the bus to Mevagissey which was fun and you can also walk from the Old Ferry Inn to Polruan and get the passenger ferry to Fowey then back to the Old Ferry Inn as a foot passenger on the car ferry. It's about 5 to 6 miles in total

Room Tip: Room 11 has a stunning view of Fowey estury

We were a party of four, staying for two nights on a Travelzoo deal at the end of February. Our "greeter" was Peter, a friendly, helpful lad with a big smile. He helped us with our bags and showed us to our rooms which had been recently refurbished. They were clean and tidy with great views of Fowey and the estuary. The bathrooms were small but functional.
The main bar had a friendly atmosphere and the log burner made it warm and cosy. There was a good selection of ales and wine and enjoyed a very agreeable lunch.
We ate at the restaurant both nights. It was comfortable with a lovely view of Fowey. All four of us were amazed at the choice of food on the menu, something for everyone. The food was delicious and faultless. Large portions meant we were only able to manage two courses! The full English breakfast was a treat, something to set you up for the day.
The staff were all helpful and efficient. Pascal has done a great job here, congratulations and thanks for a memorable stay, we will be back!

Room Tip: We had room 9, lots of stairs but worth it for the view.

We stayed for Christmas 2013 and it really does have the makings of a great little hotel.
Pascal and the team are very good and the bar is cosy and warm.
Our bedroom unfortunately was double aspect and the double glazed windows have no thermal break, the radiators are very old singles and are inadequate for the room and the bathroom was a veritable ice box with just a tiny radiator and a large cast iron bath with a hand held shower
It is also weird to provide a kettle but it then has to be plugged in on the floor as the socket on the dressing table is too far away from the surface (or the kettle lead is too short?)
I can imagine that when the weather is less cold it will be lovely and Pascal is working his way through each room refurbishing them thoroughly so hopefully by next Xmas these niggles will be fixed.
Pascal cooks a mean hog roast and have to say the Boxing Day offering was excellent especially as we ate it in the bar and not the chilly dining room.
Would I go back again? Potentially in the summer but not in the winter unless the heating issues were resolved.
And beware at Christmas the staff, with I'm sure good intentions, tried to seat us altogether for lunch. But as someone with hearing difficulties I struggle with lots of folk talking at once and had to insist on being seated separately. What surprised all of us was not being asked what we wanted to do? The only failure in the team's sure footedness over the holiday period.

We had the Breton Stew and the fish chowder, both were superb and made our hearts sing. The puddings were also glorious and topped off a just lovely lunch. All in all a meal to remember! A cold and gloomy Thursday made perfect.

We stayed at the Old Ferry Inn having looked for a short break in Cornwall. The road was exceptionally steep, but parking on the street was safe and, with directions, we found the small inn car park which is separate from the inn itself. The staff were helpful and friendly. In the bar, they serve local cider and as much of the food is sourced locally as possible. Our room was clean, well appointed and had a stunning view along the River Fowey all the way to the sea. The bathroom was exceptionally small, but served it's purpose. We chose to eat at the inn every night and were able to sit in a lounge room, in the bay window, watching the river go by. It is worth noting that the ferry between Bodinnick and Fowey stops at 7pm, but this did not bother us as we were looking for a quiet, peaceful break which we certainly got.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an estuary view although this does mean a longer walk and stairs.

We stayed here at the beginning of Feb during the storms. The Ferry Inn was very warm and comfortable with everything you needed. We ate at there on both nights of our stay and the food was very good with huge portions. Excellent view of the river and ferry from our room but very quiet. We had an ensuite shower room in our room which was small but with plenty of hot water and towels. Good stay and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a room with view of the river
