“Very kind staff and a romantic view on the Fowey river”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

We had 2 very pleasant days in this family run hatel in the heart of Fowey
The gastronomy is certainly the best choice an the staff is very helpfull, professionnal but natural so that everyone must feel well.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the amazing river view. Streetside can be noisy

If you want a nice relaxing, peaceful break, make sure you don't get a room overlooking the street. We have just returned after staying there for a week and I have to say I have never had such a bad weeks sleep, the noise form the adjoining Bistro's and bars goes on well into the midnight hours and the seagull noise is horrendous.

the staff....when we found them, were pleasant but made very little attempt to make you feel welcome. We expressed our concerns to the manager (again no name given so we didn't know who we were speaking to) who did make a gesture on our departure, although we had not asked for any recognition with regards to our disappointment. There were also issues with time it took to get service, running out of basic product, room service and we found the food at dinner in the restaurant bland and the service here actually rushed.

We will not be returning, nor would I recommend based on our experience.

Room Tip: Do not have a room overlooking the street.

Gteat location in Fowey. Staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you. Nice restaurant for both lunch and dinner with a great outdoors area right on the water when there are ncie sunny days. Plenty of blankets are needed otherwise. Nice for a romantic weekend. Our room was on t one level up on the side with a view of the water which I think most room do. we only had one night there and I would recommend at least two. Difficult to find as it is in the middle of the town which means you have to drive down and around some very, very narrow streets, past the quay in the centre of town (which looks like you can go no futher but you can) and there it will be beside the bank. Just stop at the front door to unload and there is a park anout 100 meters further along the road if you are lucky, if not the hotel has spots in a park a little further away. Fresh and clean with good service, we enjoyed out stay.

If you are not sure where you are going do not let your GPS take you on the ferry over to the other side. You must drive down the narrow streets to the centrs of town, just ask a local.

This is an hotel in a fantastic position in a beautiful location.
Hotel rooms in Cornwall are small by nature but we had the Penthouse which came at a price, steep even by Cornwall Prime location standards and the bedroom was built into and among the rafters. So much so that the mattress was on the floor with no base and the only way into and out of the bed was to crawl as it was impossible to stand upright on either side of the bed.
The pictures on the website avoid this aspect of the room and only focus on the lounge which has a great view. Rather go for the Superior room and use the money elsewhere

Just returned form 2 wonderful days at this hotel which is highly recommended
Fantastic location with a terrace overlooking the stunning estuary
Attentive staff and nothing is too much trouble
The restaurant is fantastic and again in a stunning setting we had a lovely meal on the first night and it was excellent, really high standard.
Close to all amenities and the bistro next door is excellent too
Thanks for making my birthday celebration so special

Room Tip: Avoid room 3 as smell of cooking and temperature not good

This hotel, in the main narrow throughfare in delightful Fowey, was the base for my wife and I for a 4 night visit to Cornwall. From check-in to departure everything was superb. The reception staff were prepared and awaiting our arrival, allocating the room therefore was no problem and our bags were taken up the stairs for us. Our room was superb, with a small balcony looking out over the river and there was never any noise (other than the seagulls!)

The short walk to and from the car each day was not a problem, this to be expected given the narrow streets and restricted availability of parking. The spasmodic mobile phone signals also provide a welcome break!

The restaurant at the hotel was first class - locally sourced produce on a changing menu served with pride and the staff are to be commended for their attentive but unobtrusive service! The same area is used for the breakfast room, and the view through the doors over the river estuary is to die for (we were lucky that the weather was good though)!

The outdoor patio area, on the bank of the river, provided a great place for a drink each evening upon return to the hotel from the day's sightseeing.

Fowey itself is a very small town, but with a number of other restaurants and pubs with eating facilities within a very short walk from the hotel, the location and accommodation provides a top quality, luxurious base that will be difficult to beat whatever your likes!

Overall, the Old Quay House comes highly recommended for that quality break.

Just loved everything about this place. The hotel was right in the middle of this fantastic little town. The staff from check in to the restaurant were exceptional and the food in the restaurant was pretty good too. The rooms were beautiful and spacious with small balconies that looked out over the water. We didn't want to leave this place and would recommend the hotel unreservedly.
