“Nice Location”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

As it was my 40th Birthday we upgraded to a Lakeview Room with the romantic notion of sitting in bed with breakfast looking at the view. Unfortunately Room 214 only has a view if you stand at the window and look diagonally across to the lake definitely not worth the extra money. When mentioning this on check-out we were not offered a discount but if we were to return we would be guaranteed an executive suite. A nice gesture but I don't know when / if we'll be back. They also smiled and said that Room 214 doesn't really have a Lake View Room. Well they shouldn't take peoples hard earned cash by offering something that obviously isn't there.

The Spa treatments were enjoyed by both myself and my husband. I was diasappointed to find out that there wasn't a relaxation room to use. After the treatments it was put your clothes on and off you go (in your own time of course) The pool, sauna etc were fabulous and it is worth braving the cold to use the outside hot tub.

The breakfast was outstanding although the main restaurant is very open and feels like it should be set for a wedding.

Nevertheless we had a nice time.

Room Tip: Don't accept Room 214 if you've paid for a Lake View

Dear Nallycat
Thank you taking time to review your stay with us on the occasion of your birthday celebration. By nature of the layout of the hotel some rooms will have better lake views than others and usually if reception are immediately made aware that a guest is not happy with the room allocation they will try to re-allocate. You must have been in another room as room 214 faces the rear of the hotel & carpark and would never be sold as a lakeview - sorry). When advertising our spa treatments we do not indicate anywhere that we do offer a relaxation room giving no reason for guests to assume we do.
Now that you know the layout of the hotel and like others have presumably sussed out which room would be to your preference - you should take advantage of the offer made when you raised your issues on paying at check-out. Thank you once again for your feedback, kind regards, Leigh Watson HR manager.

I stayed at the lakeside chalets for 3 nights with my wife and 1 year old. These chalets are directly on the lake and are bigger than I expected. 2 spacious twin rooms with wash hand basin's in both. We just pushed the beds together which made a large double. We woke each morning to a herd of ducks out the front of the chalet. We loved this as it kept our 1 year old amused for about half an hour. We fed them bread which meant they and the resident swan's where waiting about every morning which was nice. We ate in the hotel bar on our first night. Surrounding were excellent with nice views of the lakes. 1 year old ran about the spacious area and the staff were very friendly. Food wise it is no more than a bar menu. Not much on it but it was very tasty. Prices are much the same as most hotels. £5 for starter, £10 for main. Back to the chalet. We thought it would be very cold do to it being February but the chalet was always warm with the excellent heating system. As for maids/cleaning etc. Out of our 3 nights stay we were visited twice by staff asking if we needed anything. This was adequate as everything was provided that we would've needed for our stay. All in all it was an excellent spot and wouldn't hesistate to stay again. Can only comment on hotel staff who were more than helpful. If eating in Enniskillen, Pats bar is nice. If looking a takeaway there is a manderin buffet beside McDonald's in town centre. You can fill a box for £3.99 which is a bargain and it is really tasty.

Dear Ihategoujons
(I'm not dying about them either!!) Thanks for the great report on your stay in our self-catering chalets. A fantastic base for touring the area. Thank you for noting the contents - we try to think of everything you'd need and the housekeepers are always on hand to get another item for you if required. Those ducks adopt a family very quickly and stick with you until they've left you with no bread for toasting next morning - its when they bring in the swan as the back-up team they worry me!! Chalet residents frequently dine in our bar and restaurant as well as visiting the local restaurants in town - who wants to cook on holiday?! Chalet residents also have free use of the Health Cub during their stay but book and pay for Spa treatments separately as normal. Thanks again for such a fab review, kindest regards Leigh Watson HR manager.

We stayed for 2 nights in February 2012 and were really impressed with this hotel. Our family room was large, comfortable and with a nice view of the lake.
Almost all the staff we met (in fact all bar one) were exceptionally friendly, and couldn't have been more helpful and professional - we were staying with our 2 year old and they made us all feel very welcome.

The hotel has a really lovely pool and spa which is well maintained. My only issue the whole time was in relation to the family changing room. We had been offered its use and had changed and left all our clothes in there. However while we were in swimming one of the staff at the spa allowed access to another family. She could see us in the pool and yet never even came to ask if we would mind allowing another family to make use of it ( I would have said yes and gone in to move our stuff out of the way) - I thought this was really unprofessional.

Other than this we had a fantastic break at the killyhevlin - we ate in the hotel both nights once in the bar/grill and the second night we had our 4 course meal which was included in the deal - both meals were fab and well priced.

Our room was clean, comfy and well equipped - I hope we'll back very soon!

Dear Geri M
Thank you for writing about your family's first stay with us - great to read you had such a fabulous time and we made such a good impression on you. Our accommodation caters excellently for families and the kiddies splash pool is a major hit - admittedly its the cause of a few parents not doing the lengths they thought they might get fitted in. Our lakeside chalets are great for a self-catering family holiday but maybe when children are a wee bit more water-wise as they are right on the watersedge. We look forward to having you return on many occasions, kindest regards Leigh Watson HR manager.

Stayed on a 2 night break with dinner. Really enjoyed the experience, it was my second visit. Helpful staff, lovely food and beautiful views. Great base for touring..you are very close to Donegal. Francos in town is nice for dinner if you fancy a change from the hotel.
Spa lovely too, I had a treatment and the beautician was lovely.
I would definitely reccomend.

For a number of years my family have regularly used the Sunday evening carvery. Today we turned up at 5pm (3 adults, 2 children) only to find a few pre sliced pieces of beef in gravy and some prepared pieces of chicken in hot plates together with the tired remains of various vegetables. The popular carvery has been taken off. The a la carte menu in the bar is reminiscent of a "Harvester" style restaurant and certainly not what one would expect in a hotel of this standard - very uninspiring and not cheap. We certainly did not enjoy what was on offer and will never return. My advice to one and all is to give it a miss.

Dear forestsidelady
Thank you for posting your personal opinion of our food and menu selection. Our Grill Bar menu has proved a major success with a greater demand for it in the evenings than the buffet selection with carved joints. In busy and peak holiday times we will probably reinstate the evening buffet to ease the pressure on the kitchen and to provide a speedier service for our customers. Our full Sunday lunch time carvery is still in full swing and more popular than ever - reservations are advised. Thank you once again for your thoughts, regards, Leigh Watson, R manager.

I have had mixed experience's with this hotel good and bad. Its a lovely hotel with good food. But staff can be rude I rang on friday looking to book a weekend break and the lady on other end off phone was extremly rude I ended up not booking it as she was trying to charge me more than was advertised on internet an asking me 101 questions that had nothing to do with booking the weekend. I had my wedding reception in this hotel. Everything went well, food was excellent, room was set out lovely. As some of the evening guests arrived they had brought wedding gifts with them, At the end of the night we were advised that the presents would be safe in da reception room as it would be locked an noone would be in there until morning, so we did that and went to bed, when we got up the next morning to leave we went to get flowers cake and presents but some off the presents were missing they had been stolen, we asked the person in charge but noone was very helpful in helping us find dem, we were not offered any explation our discount just that they would ring if they turned up but never heard tell off them again.

Dear Felma812
Thank you for posting your thoughts on our hotel and the service you received. This is not the forum in which to discuss serious issues involving accusations and presumptions such as you have listed: these would be better dealt with privately and directly with our GM and or Directors with a full investigation carried out. We too do not take such matters lightly and have our reputation in business to consider. Many thanks for your taking the time to post your opinion, regards Leigh Watson, HR manager.

Hi I have to say i was very shocked to here someone complain about their stay at the Killyhelvin, I have stayed here on several occasions and I could not complain about a single thing. The staff could not do enough for us, the food in the Silks restaurant was beauitful so my thanks to the shef, the room was lovely, the view over Lough Erne from the rear of the hotel is breathtaking. So all in all I can,t wait to get back, but just goes to show you it is true " You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time" . PS. The Killyhelvin should be upgraded to 6 Stars.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, but I would recomend a lake view room which is only a few poud extra. If you...
