“Lovely hotel in a beautiful grounds beside Lough Erne”
Reviewed 27 July 2010

We have just come back from The Killyhevlin Hotel where we had stayed before, The reception staff were excellent as also were the Silks restaurant staff. We knew from past experience to avoid the bedrooms over the function room so we had a lovely quiet room in the other side of the hotel.
The morning newspaper we wanted was delivered to our room before breakfast and any requests we had were dealt with immediately. The only small complaint I have is that, as we had booked for 3 nights including dinner, the menu did not change over the 3 nights.

Visited the Killyhevlin hotel for a weekend trip in July, this was an anniversary present for my wife, paid £390 in May 2010 for a voucher which was to cover two nights B&B and one evening meal for a lake view room. Upon booking the date in early July we were advised that there was a wedding in the hotel that night, which we didn’t think would be a problem. We were checked in by a very abrupt receptionist who advised us that our room was above the function room and we would probably hear the ‘base’ from the band that night – we decided to take the room anyway to get the lake view room (which also had a balcony & and we thought a few drinks would drown out the base). We may as well have slept in the function room that night or had the band playing in our room as we could hear EVERYTHING – Smokers were also outside making noise beneath our balcony throughout the night.
Our evening meal in the Silks restaurant was poor – we were sent back to the bar while waiting for a table, and assured the waitress would come to the bar and bring us through, which didn’t happen, my cod was over cooked and before we finished our mains a squad of waitress started clearing tables and setting up for the following mornings breakfast. They were literally throwing down the table settings which put us completely off finishing our meal and made us feel like we were being forced out of the restaurant. We complained about this to the manager on duty and the response was ‘do you want to fill out a comment card’
Without going on and on there were other small things that the hotel doesn’t cater for which other hotels would that make your stay perfect eg.
• Newspapers – Belfast telegraph only. Nothing else. Had to drive to local garage to get papers
• No safe in room
• No mini bar in room
• Poor standard of shower in room
• Selection of food at lunch not great – sandwich or full on roast dinner from buffet
Ultimate Ulster on UTV had this hotel in second, up there with the Slieve Donard, Ten Square & the Culloden, my experience is that the Killyhevlin is nowhere near the same standard in terms of service and the hotel decor. What this hotel has going for it is the surrounding countryside, lakes and things to do.
Will defiantly return to Fermanagh but will not be staying in the Killyhevlin.

Dear "MJ1049"
So you choose to ignore the warning when you made your booking that there was a function on and there would be noise and took the room anyway and somehow that makes us and Frank Mitchell the baddies? OK. The receptionist was right: is it any wonder they get fed up smiling!. We don't claim to offer mini bars, we could've sorted a safe - did you ask? Papers are ordered by guests for delivery next morning and it is rare to have any morning papers left over; the BT is delivered mid afternoon and is free of charge. Of course your contribution is purely based on your own opinion and not that of the majority of satisifed guests who pass through our 70 bedroom establishment in any one year! Thank you and good luck when you defiantly return to another hotel in Fermanagh. Lucky them!
Have a good life

Dear "SCPinter"
The comments you have noted have been brought to the attention of both Deputy and General Manager.
We serve food 24:7, admittedly the bar does not serve food but the restaurant, lounge and room service all do, reception and/or night porters will also attend to a food order. Had you included in your reservations details you had need of food immediately you arrived this would have been arranged as would some food to take with you when you left for your next destination. This is Fermanagh and nobody evers starves here.
The room you describe if above the bar certainly has a view of the lake, lawns and our mature trees. We are busy hotel with plenty of functions and lots of activity so yes there will be doors opening and closing - thats how we get in and out. There can be litter after a party and we have a grounds team who clear this up as soon as they come on duty 7.30am.
You are entitled to you opinion and you don't have to come back - ever!
Have a happy life

Good value for Sunday night stay. Reception staff could be friendlier but the rooms were modern and clean and the health spa was ideal.

Dear "Aryaxa"
Thank you very much. We did some specials for Sunday nights and they proved very popular. The bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms are finished to a high spec and are well maintained by our excellent housekeeping team. The Health Club is great for relaxing - wonder if you got the chance to try the outdoor hot-tub! The Elemis Spa treatments are wonderful. Our therapists have a ritual for everything: wrinkles, aches or pains and even mothers-to-be! You'll start Monday like a new person.
We've recently recruited new people for our reception team. Unfortunately guests don't know, don't want to know and don't care if it is someone's first time on the desk. Everyone has to learn, few are born natural communicators and being on the front line they too experience a lot of unfriendliness! Your comments have been noted.
Hope to see you again

Leigh Watson HR Manager.

I visited the Killyhevlin with my mother and young daughter. The staff were most helpful and always efficient in their service. The food was delicious, and service in the restaurant was excellent. As aviation staff, I have travelled to many destinations, staying in various hotels and I am pleased to say that the staff at the Killyhevlin did excel. Would recommend a stay here

Dear "KSC24"
So glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. Our staff aim to please and it is great that you have taken time to mention you appreciate their efforts. Chef offers a range of dishes on the various menus and its not often there isn't something to suit. The restaurant staff are very efficient but can still enjoy a good laugh with the residents and guests which creates a relaxed atmosphere. Hope your schedule allows you some time to return

Dear "Dublinfaircitylady"
Thank you so much. Brilliant to read our reception team gave you such a fantastic and friendly welcome. They're a great team and in the front line all the time being expected to handle everything from guests checking in, maintenance issues, lost clothing & mobiles, fishing licenses, directions to who knows where never mind answering the phone the phone and taking reservations (frequently it happens at once). They always up for a bit of banter with the residents and thoroughly enjoy guests with a sense of humour!
Hope to see you back

We were told upon arrival that we had not booked, then that we had not paid a deposit, much to our embarassment.I have serious misgivings about their internet booking facilities if they have to look through pages to find a booking! As this had been booked as a special anniversary treat, this was not the best way to start our break.
All other facilities were excellent.
We have since been contacted by the Killyhevlin staff, but got a very vague reply about giving us a good deal;which could mean anything from a free bottle of wine to a room with a view!

Dear "weecath77"
Oh dear oh dear! Not a very professional greeting at all and certainly not the normal for here. Admittedly we have started a few new people as trainees on the reception team but such non-professionalism and poor customer care is unaccepatable and blaming a trainee is no excuse. Your comments have been made known to and acted on by our Reception Manager. I am unaware of the actual conversation between yourselves and whoever spoke with you but I have been assured by the General Manager he is aware of this incident. Please don't bear a grudge based on one poor experience. I do hope you come back to us and let us make amends.
Regards
