“Fabulous location and facilities”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

We stayed here for a single night atttending a wedding. This is one of the best spa hotels we have ever stayed at. The location on the riverbank is stunning, and the outdoor and indoor seating areas are superb. Our room was bijoux but beautifully fitted out with every amenity. Breakfast was pretty good and the staff were amazingly nice and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a riverside view on a higher floor

We stayed at this hotel for a birthday treat. We were allocated a room overlooking the entrance as they were fully booked. The room was very small but practical and rather noisy due to a wedding reception in the function room which it near. On our second night we managed to get a room overlooking the Thames, which was the same size but a much nicer view, being able to watch the boats coming and going in the lock. The breakfast was excellent, there was everything you could possibly want!!! We had a meal included in the price, which again was first class, with lots of choices in a homely restaurant looking out over the river. We were lucky enough to have lovely weather so spent a pleasant afternoon at the outdoor pool, which was very clean and relaxing with plenty of space and sun loungers. There were large bean bags and lots of seating along the river to enjoy. The staff were all very helpful and attentive. Would definitely recommend and go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view, so much nicer than looking over the car park side.

Thank you for your positive review and I am glad we were able to allocate you a river view room for the second night of your stay so you could watch the boats go by on the river. I am pleased that you found the breakfast excellent finding everything you could possibly want and that your evening meal in the riverside restaurant was first class.
We have been lucky this summer with the weather and I am glad that you were able to make use of the outdoor pool and relax on the loungers.
I have passed on your kind comments to the team as it is feedback such as yours that encourage them and show them that their efforts are appreciated.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

We recently stayed for one night over a weekend. We had not stayed at the hotel before but were a bit apprehensive having received mixed levels of service and food during previous visits.
The hotel check in was professional but not particularly warm or welcoming, which was in keeping with our expectations. Our room, which was on the first floor looking over the river Thames was a pleasant surprise. Quiet with nice fittings, comfortable bed, two armchairs, so that we could both sit and look at the passing river, and a very long bath, which was a big positive after staying in many hotels with short baths. Only negative, no bathrobes, although the hangers and message about purchasing our own were on the back of the bathroom door. It took two calls to reception to get robes delivered, after first being told by housekeeping that we would have to pay for them, an issue cleared up by reception with some exasperation!
Our evening meal at 'The Lock' restaurant was ok with the scallop starters and fruit crumble desert the best parts. Downside for us was the noisy, rather hectic, noisy environment, which certainly did not make for a relaxing meal, plus a very negative response from the manager when we requested a table further away from the service entrance to the restaurant.
After a good nights sleep we took the advice of a management letter left in the room by the 'turn down' team suggesting an early breakfast if we wanted quick service at breakfast because the hotel was very full. We got down for 8:45am to find the main restaurant very busy with lots of young families so we retired gracefully to 'The Lock' where we had a nice buffet breakfast offering a good choice.
In summary our hotel room exceeded our expectations but the level of service was mixed at best. A lot of the guests were families with young children or guests at a wedding reception held in the hotel which made for a very frenetic atmosphere throughout the hotel and did not make for a relaxing stay.

Thank you for your honest and overall positive review of the runnymede and I am glad that you were pleasantly surprised with your room overlooking the river and the ‘long bath’. I have passed your comment regarding the bathrobes to the Head Housekeeper as it is a standard to have these in the rooms for the guest’s arrival.
I am also pleased that you enjoyed your meal in the Lock Bar and Kitchen especially the scallops and crumble even though due to school holidays, the environment was a little noisier than usual and had a nice breakfast in the morning.
I am however sorry that you felt the service was mixed and lacked warmth in certain areas and we will pass this feedback onto the teams as we are always striving to be friendly with a high level of service which it appears we lacked in on your visit.
I do hope that we will see you again in the future and hope that we can live up to the levels of service on which we pride ourselves.
Kind regards

4 adults and 2 toddlers stayed at the hotel for a weekend. The hotel is lovely and modern in decoration. The weather was lovely and we were able to sit outside over looking the river having lunch and evening drinks.
After reading reviews we went for the deluxe river view rooms which were adequate in size and could easily accommodate the travel cot. The view of the river was lovely and have no real complaints about the room.
We ate at the buffet restaurant on both nights (lots of choice and food was delicious) and the major let down for us is the poor choice available to children. We had to ask for fish fingers etc to be cooked, as both toddlers were going through the fussy phase! I have been to other families hotels which offer a much better selection of food. Both parties struggled to feed the fussy toddlers and it would have been helpful if we had been informed that there was the opportunity to request different foods.
There was a lovely play area by the outdoor swimming pool. We did not use the outdoor pool, but it is heated to 30c and looked really enjoyable. There are floats there to use, as well as plenty of loungers.
There is an indoor children's pool which we did use and before I went I emailed the hotel to find out when children were not allowed and it was only between 12-3pm.
Lovely footpaths outside the hotel for walking along the river and we walked into Stanies one day.
Both children were given cuddly toy ducks.
Overall I would go back to the hotel and we had a lovely weekend.

I am pleased to read that overall you had a lovely weekend with us, particularly enjoying all the facilities on offer. I’m sure you appreciate that it can be awkward to provide every food item that could be requested and with such an extensive buffet selection, usually there is something for everyone’s tastes. I do understand, however, that it can be difficult when toddlers are going through a ‘fussy stage’ so I’m glad that when you did request certain menu items for them, we were able to accommodate those requests.
Should you decide to return, do let us know in advance if there are any particular food items you would like us to have available as we do aim to meet as many guest requests as possible.
We do hope you will visit us again.
Kind regards

Just had a short break staying at this hotel and we could not fault it. Diverse selection of people from couples, families and business people and it suits everyone. Spa, pools and facilities were clean and relaxing. Food was amazing and of a high standard, The Lock restaurant is suitable for a more intimate meal where as the Leftbank restaurant has a vast selection that would suit most tastes. The rooms were clean and had fresh towels that were replaced regularly and a bed that was so comfortable we didn't want to get out!!! We feel that we have had a continental holiday break in the heart of England. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Top tip: If visiting Windsor Castle it is better to book online before you go as the queues can be very long.

Booked several rooms for very small wedding. When we arrived 6 of us I as groom had been upgraded and a card in the room then we had booked boat trip for couple of hours on self drive launch and yet again an upgrade of glass of champagne and nibbles all excellent and different also good advice as where to sail to. At dinner more upgrade as more champers and a lovey iced food ornament on table. Really excellent menu with staff who advised well on selections in restaurant which opened on to river. Altogether a marvellous visit so much so that all of us plan to return on anniversary even although 4 of us live on bonnie Scotland. We then went to sister hotel in London equally good although entirely different at Hyde park corner. Kevin de. M.B.

Thank you for your great review of the runnymede and I am pleased that you ‘loved it’ and thought that the team here could not do more. I am also glad that the children liked their goodie bags and you all thought the breakfast and dinner were memorable and ‘Fantastic’.
