We were given a very warm welcome and the room was pleasant, if a little small. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable. It was a very hot period and aircon would have been welcome. However, I recall this hotel as the Phoenix and my guess is that whilst refurbishment was well carried out, the costs of retrospective installation of aircon would have been prohibitive. Flowerpower8513 described the situation perfectly although we were asked if we had enjoyed our stay - and we did! The Breakfast choice is standard JDW and thus enjoyable. It was also nice to enjoy a relaxing social time in the Bar before Bed. I have to say that all, repeat all, staff from reception, housekeeping, Bar and Kitchen were excellent - not just to us but we observed them treating others nicely too.

Really surprised at the nice sized room, well decorated and clean. Had everything you would need - apart from air conditioning. We were really uncomfortable due to the hot weather, understandably the windows only opened so much and the fan supplied just moved hot air around. Even on checkout we weren't asked if we had a nice stay, I guess the receptionist anticipated most people's reply. Would definitely stay here again but in cooler weather. Shame as it was the only thing that let it down.

We stopped at this hotel for the second time, this weekend. Beautiful rooms, amazing priced meals. Really friendly staff.
Only problems are very little parking and a lack of a lift in the hotel part. But this is a great place to have as a base for a holiday

Stayed here for 1night, very spacious room, staff very helpful, and although there is not a lift a member of staff carried our cases upstairs for us. Hotel near shops and a beautiful thatched cottage.
Just one problem which is not the staffs fault, young mums coming in for coffee and a chat with their friends, babies and young children screaming the place down, mums totally ignoring them. Spoilt our breakfast and a few people walked out? Weatherspoons need to address this problem as it happens in so many if their pubs.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back of the hotel

Stayed here for 1 night whilst passing through the area,
Booking online was simple on wetherspoons own website and was £64 room only.
Check in was quick where at this point you have to pay up front for your room
The room was spotlessly clean, bathroom also clean with good standard toiletries,
Food was the usual spoons standard meals its OK for the price. couple of pubs locally but they're not up to much.

Room Tip: Room 205 overlooked the roof of the pub downstairs and the air conditioning fans are a bit loud over...

Lovely hotel and restaurant, staff are all very friendly and helpful. We were lucky and parked in one of the few spaces behind the hotel but unsure where any other parking was available. Only 2 niggly problems, the room was very hot, there is no air conditioning at this hotel and as our room was at the front we couldn't keep our window open because of the traffic noise so we had very little sleep. The other problem was with the bedside lights, the lampshades are dark purple and very little light gets through so if you want to read in bed you need the main lights on.
I did point these out to the staff and they just nodded in understanding so I am not the first person to notice these faults so maybe Wetherspoons could rectify this and then the hotel would be perfect!!!

Stayed for 2 nights 23/24/05. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Food and rinks were good and cant fault Wetherspoons for the value for money.
Our room was nice and clean and we had a very enjoyable stay. First time we have stayed in a Wetherspoons Hotel, but will do so again!

Room Tip: we had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the street, it was quiet no problem with noise
