Popped in on the off chance after visiting Puzzlewood, there were 4 of us and we just had a light lunch. We were very impressed by what we were served. The platters were full of delicious, freshly prepared food, the best ploughmans we have ever had. Would highly recommend, it's just a pity we live too far away to go regularly. We didn't have any main meals, but if the lunch was anything to go by, I'm sure they would be delicious.

We have been eating at the Miners for the last 6 months. The owners Sam and Steve are first class ensuring the customer service is of the highest level.
We recommend that you try a Monday, "pop luck" menu, half the price on all courses plus reduced prices on some of the drinks at the bar. Book a table in the restaurant to avoid being disappointed.
All food is locally sourced and the quality and presentation is excellent. We have never had a bad meal experience ever.
Try other days too as the quality can always be assured.

Visited for the 1st time last night for supper, the atmosphere was ok the food was a let down after all the reviews i read on here and none of the food bared any resemblance to the photos posted by other diners.
Staff were very pleasant and friendly when they were around, service was appaling.
Started with bread and oil/balsmic, bread lacked any salt and the oil and vinegare was served in a shot glass, for main course i had ploughmans, cheese was delicious but came with 3 small pieces of bread for a main course!, it had a garnish of salad and 2 small pots of chutney, dessert was a multi chocolate dessert which was ok, but lacked flavour in the milkshake and brulee, very dissapointed and wont be returning or recommending

My husband and I started going to The Miners when Sam and Steve took it over two years ago. They built a closed pub (yet another one!) into an excellent restaurant and welcoming hostelry with a great little B&B that we have had the pleasure of using. I am shocked to read some of the reviews from July, as we have never seen Sam take a drink and she is always well presented and a kindly face after a long day at work. In May we returned from travelling for 10 months to find the standards as good if not better than before. They use local suppliers that they freely advertise in their restaurant and on their menu. Clever chef, Steve, puts a twist on more familiar dishes - but if you want the old favourites, they are all there and cooked to a very high standard. Fantastic value for some of the highest quality food in the beautiful Forest of Dean.

We had booked to stay just one night here last Sunday, I booked through a website and I emailed the pub direct for a table for dinner, but the restaurant was booked, however, we were offered and accepted, a table in the bar. When we arrived, we were shown to our room by a charming young lady, (Allora?). There was a function going on at the pub, and they were really busy, but we were still able to sit out in the garden and enjoy a drink reading the papers. We could have sat in the bar area, but it was a lovely day, and we wanted to sit outside. We were made very welcome.
We ate in the bar, and the food is superb. Fabulous menu. We both had the fish & chips and I finished off with liquorice Ice cream, sounds strange, but it was delicious. My husband had the crumble, and said it was great. Steve the chef, and owner, I believe, really knows how to cook and the breakfast was good too. Sam too really looked after us. All the staff were helpful and friendly. They had obviously had a really busy day on the Sunday with the function, but that didn't affect the service we received at all. We stayed in Room 1, a lovely big room, with great shower and comfy bed and tea & coffee plus the bonus of delicious home made shortbread. The room and parts of the pub are a bit tired and could do with a bit of a spruce up, but I'm not sure where these hard working people will get the time! ( Happy to give some pointers about what I mean) We would return and stay here again. There is local art on the walls to buy and I can see why this is so popular with locals and tourists, the food really does speak for itself and it would be a shame if you booked to stay here without sampling the food, you will be missing the best bit!
