Stunning views and scenery - when you can get to the front. Best places were staked out by the bird watchers with their cameras and telescopes. But worth the climb to see.

Stunning views from the top of Symonds Yat Rock. Lots to learn when you get up there about the
wildlife, especially the eagles which nest in the rock face. suoer view accross several counties.
the pathways are well engineerd on timber for access to the viewing areas. Its such a pity that the parkins has to be paid for when no reall preparation to park has been made, we arrived late in the day and hadeto pay the whole day rate for one hour? Come on Forestry Commission get your act together and at least give value for money with the facilities!

The drive up to the Forestry Commission car park site is really narrow, but once there the car park is quite spacious (though busy on the Bank Holiday weekend) with a toilet and a small cafe. Car parking was £3.50, but there is no fee otherwise for hikers and cyclists etc.
A cup of tea at the cafe was £1.10. Plenty of large wooden tables for picnics, and grass, so bring your own food up. And the best bit was the fabulous viewing point towards Ross, with the cliff-face and falcon nests. The local bird-watchers were out in force with binoculars etc.
Below you can see the meandering Wye filled with kayaks and canoes, heading to the Saracens Head pub.
To walk to the river takes about 15 minutes down the steep gravelly path, though its not too difficult - just don't wear flipflops! Been before, last year Sept, and when wet it gets pretty slippery and muddy in places.
Great day out when the weather is good, recommended. The view and the pub are well worth it!

This has to be one of the most beautiful places in the country. Good sign-posting, plenty of car-parking, and lots of options for walks, short or long. There are some lovely restaurants / tea shops at the bottom of Yat Rock, and a Log Cabin at the top where you can buy drinks, ice creams et cetera.

Easy access, beautiful location in the Forest of Dean. Facility for drinks and light meals, albeit a little expensive. Panoramic views of Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire and Herefordshire. See the habitat of Peregrine Falcon and other birdwatching opportunities.
