“Sea Fishing Stay”
Reviewed 13 July 2012

We enjoyed out stay at the Kings Hotel HUGELY. The best thing about it, which made us feel it was the best hotel we had ever stayed in, was the friendliness of the staff, and the way they made us feel they genuinely cared about how much we enjoyed staying in the hotel. We noticed several staff in the restaurant taking time to talk to an elderly lady dining on her own. Every single member of staff was wonderful - so welcoming and the service was superb. Our room was huge, light and airy with two massive sash windows - and big sitting area - a bit noisy from the road with traffic lights outside - but the room and bathroom were so pleasant it made up for it. On our fishing experience trip, tea and cupcakes was part of the deal but we asked for sandwiches instead and were given wonderful platefuls - with chips. It was a great start to a fabulous holiday. We felt thoroughly spoilt - so well looked after on the fishing trip - great fun going out with Alex and Jamie the skipper and fellow guests - followed by fizz and hot soup, then Alex's wonderful demonstration, and loads of tastes of our mackerel and pollock cooked in different ways, a wonderful spread for lunch with wine, just for us. The tasting menu in the evening was incredible - a shame we couldn't do it justice after our fabulous lunch - even after a snooze and a great walk - what an amazing place Christchurch is - so many unexpected things to see and even the locals seem extra friendly. Thanks to Lucasz and Alex and all the staff for a memorable stay.

Room Tip: 103 is a fabulous, large, light room with huge sash windows, big sofa and sitting area.. Only drawba...

I recentl;y had the pleasure of going on one of the Kings Hotel experience days.
2.5hrs Sea Fishing followed by a cookery demonstration with Alex Aitken,

IT was extremely well organised with a very experienced skipper of the boat, someone seemed to catch something everytime we put our hooks in the water.

The cookery demonstration once we got back to the hotel was a Joy, a welcoming glass of fizz and a hot bowl of soup whilst Alex went to get himself ready.

A number of different dishes were cooked / presented to us, the day seemed to go on and on. I feel that if I hadn't had a meeting to go to I could have been there in great company until the late evening.

Well worth doing and something I'm looking forward to doing again.

Stayed 2 nights in a superior room which was of a good size with a spacious en-suite. Staff could not be faulted; very welcoming & nothing too much trouble. Fizz & chips meal first night was very good & great value. Second night we had booked elsewhere but was put off by their prices & so returned to Kings for another meal which was again faultless. Despite just turning up for the meal we were fitted in comfortably into a very busy restaurant. Breakfast both days was really good, freshly cooked to order & well presented. Very friendly staff.
The only minor niggle was the free WiFi had a very poor signal in our room & could not be accessed.
Would certainly stay again & it would be a definite destination.
A first class Hotel & Restaurant that I fully recommend.

Really friendly staff, comfortable room very well presented, great meal. The only problem we had was guests at another wedding celebrated late into the night and kept us awake until we complained. The staff sorted this really well with apologies and not charging for one of the nights, it's how people deal with problems that show how well n hotel deals with its guests, The Kings passes this test with flying colours.

Room Tip: The best rooms are on the 1st floor at the front - however these are slightly noisier, overlooking t...

I had a superb meal at the Kings Hotel, with excellent service. I particularly liked the 15 mile menu where all ingredients were sourced within a 15 mile radius.

Room Tip: I did not stay - only visited the restaurant.

We stayed at the Kings Hotel for the night of our wedding and the night after. I don't think we could have got off to a better start. We look forward to staying here on our future anniversary's. It is a great location in the heart of the wonderful town of Christchurch. The breakfast is the perfect start to the day, the rooms are spacious and inviting, and the staff were friendly. The only disappointment was that the guy who normally works in the bar who makes amazing cocktails must have been away for the weekend as we were looking forward to that when we got back from the wedding. Apart from that, this is a great place to come if you want a special weekend away.

Having stayed in the Kings a couple of time in the past and also the sister hotle the Christchurch Harbour Hotel at Muddiford (known to us as the Avonmouth), we took a two day break last week to finish off June. The hotel was great and we had a dbb and bb two night package. There seems to have been a complete management change over in the past few months and whilst generally ok we did have a problem over dinner on our first night. Having booked for 8.00pm we arrived in the bar a little befor eight and were served with drinks. By 8.15 no one had approached us so I asked for a menu, which arrived wioth a certain element of suprise. By 8.30, I enquired if anyone was ready to take our order when the manager asked if everything was ok. We said no, we have been totally ignored and wer by now starving. A large paltter of bread, olives and dipd arrived but still no one wanted to take our order. By 9.10 we got into the restaurant and eventually were served. Frustrating - yes , but we could see they were busy so why not just tell us up front, offer a glass of wine and we would have been happy. To just ignore your customers isn't good business. The following night we dined at the Captains Club Hotel on the quay. Would we go back - yes its still an excellent hotel

Room Tip: All rooms we have stayed in have been excellent with those to the back quieter.
