“Husbands birthday surprise”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

Booked this as a birthday surprise DBB and we were not disappointed. Lovely location right opposite walkway to quayside. We were extremely lucky with the weather so we were able to enjoy Hengistbury and have drinks and eats outside. The breakfasts and dinners were lovely and all the staff smashing. We would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: We asked for a room at the back as the front is on the main road through Christchurch so I would ima...

We were travelling from Devon to our home in Essex and decided to spend a day exploring Christchurch. Despite the inclement weather we walked everywhere and were rather tired and bedraggled around 5pm when we saw the inviting hotel sign advertising a 3-course meal for £15.
Although this was not available until 6pm we were invited to spend a restful time in the bar area before being called by the restaurant. All the hotel staff were polite, courteous and friendly and made us feel very welcome before serving a wonderful meal from the large varied menu. Cooked to perfection and accompanied by a reasonably priced bottle of wine, the following two hours made it a first-class end to the day. Although we did not stay overnight at the hotel we would not hesitate to do so in the future as we would be confident that the rest of the hotel amenities would be of an equally high standard. Well done, The Kings Hotel - Brilliant !!

Stayed recently for a wedding in the annexe to the hotel. We had a large room at the front which overlooked the bowling green. The views were great - we were a bit anxious about whether there would be any noise from the road but it was not as bad as we thought. The bed was very comfortable. Free wi-fi was a nice surprise. The breakfast had a good selection and the staff were excellent. The downside is a lack of secure parking and only one person at reception delayed the check-in. Highly recommend this hotel.

We chose the Kings Priory as our wedding venue as we live in Christchurch and wanted to share the character of the town with our friends and family from near and far. It is an ideal venue for those that want the security and familiarity of a hotel venue, without feeling like you are traipsing through a reception or amongst guesst you do not know staying in the hotel. The priory building to the side of the hotel, gives you and your wedding party your own space to enjoy the day, which in our case, made it feel all about us! The actual day ran really smoothly and we really did receive excellent service from the general manager, the wedding co-ordinator, the waiters, chef and bar staff. We were particularly delighted with our wedding breakfast where we had been able to request some of our favourite foods and chef came up with an absolutely delicious menu which our friends are still raving about. We spent our first night as a married couple in the hotel and loved our spacious room. I personally love where the hotel is situated. I woke up in the morning and looked out onto the pretty bowling green where we had shared drinks with our family the previous day and also onto the beautiful ruins of the Priory. Yes, it may be on fairly busy road but I think it is in keeping with the hustle and bustle of a truely unique and lively town that is full of character. The Kings will always be a special place to us now and gave us the individual, relaxed, typically English and very sunny day that we wanted. Thanks to all involved.

We held our daughters wedding at The Kings yesterday, WOW what an amazing day - we honestly couldn't fault anything. The venue was just beautiful and so perfect for a small intimate wedding, drinks on the lawn opposite and then just the amazing photography opportunities. Then the wedding breakfast, the food was just incredible. Throughout the day, and before, the team at The Kings provided the most impeccable customer service to all our guests, even the awkward ones.
We didn't have a huge budget but The Kings provided us with the most amazing, beautiful day that was enjoyed by all and I can't thank them enough would have no hesitation in recommending this venue. Just amazing

If it's a nice hotel room, good wine and an excelent breakfastyou are looking for while in Dorset then look no further as the 'Kings' delivered!
We stayed on Saturday in a great room at the front of the hotel which looked over the green. We enjoyed a fantastic bottle of Champagne (great value) and probably the best breakfast in years...
If we had had more time we would've probably tasted more wine from the extensive wine list and proberly had another breakfast...
Very good service.

We recently stayed over a Friday & Saturday night whilst attending a wedding nearby. We arrived at 9pm on a Friday evening and found the hotel car park to be full (behind the Hotel, and only knew about it after reading TA reviews), and the parking at the front of the Hotel consists of a layby that requires constant shuffling around of cars by the girls on reception as it was also full. OK as long as you're not too precious about your car! The top grade of room we had was very spacious and comfortable, huge comfy bed, and nice bathroom - only niggle was the shower was over the bath even though the bathroom could easily accommodate a shower too. After a very nice meal in the Hotel restaurant we went to bed, and put the airconditioning on as the window overlooking the back of the hotel (the car park) let in little breeze. Anyway, woke up really hot - aircon not on and window closed, and couldn't get aircon on again, so had a rubbish night's sleep, and when we got up at 7am (much to early for us!) found that we actually had no electric at all. Several calls to reception later, which diverted to a mobile answerphone (and which we then got charged for!), and we decided to go down for early breakfast. The Reception staff were very helpful and got the electric back on. As we were heading off for our wedding at 12pm we spent a good portion of the morning in the room getting ready - unfortunately with the electric going off several more times. Eventually the Manager came to the room to investigate as only our room 106 was effected, and it was decided the aircon unit was tripping the supply, so our relaxing morning turned stressful as we got hotter without the aircon and later with all the delays! Whilst we found this inconvenient, the Manager dealt with things efficiently, and offered us a reduction on our room rate, which we accpeted.

The Hotel is ideally situated for the Christchurch area, and the evening meal in the restaurant was pretty good. The breakfasts were not as good and inconsistent - an undercooked sausage, and burnt fried bread - both easy to rectify. The Staff were all friendly and helpful and the rooms well furnished. Despite our problems we would return.
