“Gone into freefall - best avoided.”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Up until October last year this place was a regular goldmine, was always busy, provided good quality meals and was the place of choice for myself and close family who live, work and socialise nearby.

Without war & peace;

Booked table, arrived to find it dirty, with empty glasses and previous incumbents leftovers strewn over it.

Even though it was early, new hire was being given lesson on the till whilst large party stood at bar for 14, yes fourteen minutes, without any acknowledgement, service or smile. Did receive several looks by both the female server and the manager who absolutely stank of body odour. Good impression? Draw your own conclusion.

The other bar was well filled due to football on the TV but there was only one other member of staff at that end who never ventured our way.

Eventually drinks order filled, card swipe taken pending food order.

Whole premises requires a damn good clean. Last managers would probably cry if they could see what has happened to the place they brought back from the doldrums and would appear to be heading back there in record time.

Nine meals ordered at bar. Service began after 30 minutes, not all meals delivered together, order was nearly right. No enquiry made at any time after delivery if meals were to order or satisfaction.

One steak completely inedible (could not be cut with the knife provided and thereby left on plate as was). Food lukewarm and not at the standard required.

45 minutes later when somebody actually bothered to remove the plates the offending steak was mention to the waitress. I will mention it to chef ! !

Upon paying the issue was once again raised but no apology was forthcoming. When mentioned to the manager who was advertising the well know product " go and wash" that the likelihood of my returning was not going to happen he shrugged and stated a curt " I'll live with it".

Complaint en-route to Greene King.

Do not go here to eat and expect any 1. quality of service, 2. customer service, 3. quality food as those currently within have not a single idea how or what to do to actually provide a service to customers. There are plenty of other places in Christchurch to go to who will welcome you and relieve of your money gladly by providing an experience that others should be proud of.

“Pretentious.”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

Ordered a bowl of mushroom soup, what I got was a small bowl and a dribble of soup. When I complained I was told that because it was a big bowl it didn't look like a lot. When I explained that I wasn't five years old and that no matter how big or small the bowl was if you only put a dribble of soup in it....its still only a dribble. Unacceptable, will not be going back. PS, its not home cooked, its pre-packed portions.

“Dissapointing”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Went for a meal with my family at around 2. Very poor vegetarian options in particularly on the children's menu My meal arrived a good ten minutes after everyone else's and much of it was burnt and unappealing. Furthermore although not the fault of the pub their was a large group of children left unattended by parents wondering around being noisy which was a huge distraction and bad example for my three year old nephew . Despite this the staff seemed lovely.

“There to watch rugby with friends”
Reviewed 12 November 2013

Basic pub decor and atmosphere, nothing more or less. Clean and with a good selection of beers. Friends who ate there were impressed by quantity and quality. Not a rugby fan but an enjoyable degree of banter/observation from those watching. Comfortable seats, warm on a wet day! I'd go again.

Went on TA reviews and have to say, did not live up to our expectations. Food was not good. Sorry that's it.
