Captain's Club Hotel

Staying with friends who lived in the area we decided to visit The Captain's Club Hotel for a coffee and a light lunch. Our friends were also intending to check out the spa's facilities and book a couple of days for a family member as a relaxing birthday present.

Unfortunately we only made it as far as the coffee....honestly the worst coffee I've had in a very long time. We sat outside on the deck to enjoy the view (the person responsible for designing the pretentious 70's inspired duty free lounge interior needs shooting) and waited for some service. After 15 minutes and still no menu, not even a nod or a smile from a waitress and it wasn't busy, I found a couple of menus myself and asked if we could order some drinks. The cappucchino appeared with all-the-life-kicked-out-of-it foam, the two Americanos were insipid and cold and my flat white was a dull grey. I asked if they could do me another only to be told they didn't have the right milk! The latte I ordered as a compromise was also a dull grey but a larger version. All of them tasted like dish water.

No...we didn't order any lunch. No....we didn't bother loking at the spa. And NO....we won't be going back again!

I must apologise for taking so long to write this. This hotel was an amazing experience, the staff are quite unbelievably marvellous. I cannot put into words their effort and joy in their work and in theor desire to help you. The accomodation is lovely, clean, comfortable and well kitted out, suitable for families and with very good food.

Just brilliant.

on 28th July this year four of us called in for lunch at this very pleasant, hotel in a lovely setting. Unfortunately the food was not very special and was very overpriced. Two of us had Tagliatelle, which was mediocre, and the size would have been almost big enough for a starter. Likewise the salad which seemed to consist of lettuce with a dressing on it. My Saffron risotto with parmesan consisted of , again, a small amount of almost tasteless yellow rice with about 10 peas and a teaspoon of parmesan (no exaggeration) The price of these tiny dishes was £9 each - extortionate! Also a pint of cider was £4.40p - again extortionate! We won't be calling in again.

I booked a night's accomodation and dinner for my wife's birthday and was very impressed. The service from the time we arrived until departure was first class. All the staff were very friendly, the quality of the rooms and the views were excellent. Best of all was the quality of the Dinner menu- We both had three courses and were greatly impressed with all of them and the water was very attentive. For a special treat I would thouroghly recommend a stay at the Captain's club.

What a great place if visiting or staying in Christchurch. Right by the river/estuary, nice views, fab food and the best club sandwich I have ever had. The staff are so attentive, rooms are nice, although they don't have a balcony wish is a shame. Good location as only a 5min walk to the centre of Christchurch and ample parking. Very popular with the locals all day, not surprising really as the food is good as is the service.

The location on the waterfront is pleasant and relaxing, just a short walk to the Cathedral. The room was very spacious, beautifully decorated in a crisp modern style. Some nice touches in the room, for example cookies on arrival and aromatherapy toiletries.

We had dinner in the restaurant, which was very busy. In fact many of the menu options were sold out, suggesting room for improvement in stock management processes. The food was of good quality, with fine local ingredients. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and friendly.

We made good use of the hydrotherapy pool (free with room) and spa treatments (extra cost).

The only downside is that the bar runs below most of the rooms, along the rear of the hotel. It therefore gets noisy until around midnight.

Room Tip: at the very end of the corridor, away from the bar

I was here for a wedding at the beginning of July, as soon as I got out of the car I fell in love with the place! we arrived at reception at about half 12, they told us our rooms wouldn't be ready yet but they'll be as quick as possible but it could be about 3 that we could get in, 20 minutes later the receptionist christina came over to say our rooms were ready, AMAZING service. We got to the room which was clean and tidy and well stocked with tea, coffee, biscuits, shower gels etc! During the wedding the staff were very attentive, always looking after your needs and to make sure you were never without anything during the course of the night. In the morning we went for breakfast which we found incredibly tasty and the free pastries were gorgeous, which were accompanied by waffles and maple syrup (these you had to pay for, but so worth the price!) all in all, my stay here was fantastic and would recommend and definatley go back again!!
