“Blissful weekend!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

We spent this weekend at The Captain's Club and couldn't recommend it more highly. From the minute we arrived until we left the staff were amazing -so attentive, helpful and smiley. We stayed in a suite which was lovely, very chic but also comfortable, it had every mod con you could wish for including a dishwasher! The view from the suite was incredible, so picturesque - boats and swans, we spent ages just watching the world go by. There is a lovely terrace where you can sit and have drinks also overlooking the river. We took the ferry from right outside the hotel to the other side of the river ( 2 minutes!) and then walked for about 50 minutes to the beach, which is beautfful and sandy. In the evening we had cocktails at the buzzing bar, Tomo the mixologist (cocktail maker) made us some fab cocktails! Good quality food with plenty of choice and beautifully served. We liked the use of local producers like the breakfast cereal provider from Dorset. We didn't make it to the spa but we looked in and will definately go during our next visit.

Room Tip: Definately ask for a river view, some of the suites have a corner view as well

This hotel is one not to miss. The location is so relaxing, right on the river with plenty of room on the terrace to watch the world go by - there is lots of activity on the water as the hotel is located next to the Rowing Club.
Our bedroom was very well equipped, clean, spacious with a great view.
Has a small spa which my wife used but would suggest you pre book any treatments.
We had a top class dinner on the Saturday night (again make sure you book as the restaurant was full). We really couldn't fault a thing. Great ingredients, well matched and beautifully presented. Breakfast was also really good with lots of local ingredients including Dorset Cereals.
But above all, what really made the stay so special was the staff. For the most part, quite a young team, but clearly very well trained and without exception they all went out of their way to ensure you had everything you needed. And when they recommend something, take their advice. We chose a cocktail each but they suggested a "special" that they had on that evening - we weren't disappointed. At dinner, the wine waitress suggested we try another wine to the one we had been drinking earlier in the day - yes it was a couple of £ more expensive, but was absolutely well worth it.
Well done Captain's Club.

Great spot on the bank of the river by the ferry stop to Sandbanks.Wonderful terrace for lunch or early evening drinks. Buzzy bar and brilliant cocktail shakers. Food good but modest breakfast and limited dinner menu and the restaurant does not match atmosphere of the bar. Bedrooms a tad bland but the ambiance of the hotel and excellent service makes up for this.

We had lunch here yesterday and the waiting staff could not have been more attentive and polite - we had a delay with our order and were kept fully informed and attended to.

We had Thai curry, Barbeque Chicken and a chicken ceasar salad - all good portions and nicely presented - good quality food - excellent.

We have been here over the years and is always vey pleasant - my observation and comment as to why it doesn't get 5 stars is the quality of the chairs in the bar area - they need replacing, are quite battered and it lets the place down - otherwise it is great here!

We recently spent a night at the Captains Club which enjoys a splendid location on the bank of the River Stour. The terrace is adjacent to the moorings and our room had a superb view of the yachts and the activity on the river.

The room was capacious and elegantly furnished in a modern style. The bathroom was especially large and well appointed. The staff were courteous, friendly and most willing to help.

Our experience in the restaurant for the evening meal fell short of our expectation for a hotel of this class.

We expected a comfortable, quiet and relaxing restaurant. Instead, we got the impression of being in a busy pub. The tables were quite closely packed and the room was full and very noisy. The waiters seemed to be very busy but appeared to be disorganised. Waiters did not seem to be assigned to a particular table which resulted in confusion and slowness in taking orders. The food, when it arrived, was acceptable but not of a standard that we would have expected from this category of hotel. A previous reviewer has described the food as 'pub grub': this was our impression too. The £17 'Fish of the day', for example, we thought was unremarkable.

Breakfast was good; the restaurant was almost empty and had a pleasant atmosphere - probably because only overnight guests were present.

Apart from the unrelaxing nature of the evening meal, we enjoyed our stay and we would recommend the Captains Club for the high quality of the accommodation, the outstanding location and the general helpfulness of the staff.

Room Tip: Room 107 has magnificent views over the river.

Well you would certainly expect it to be fabulous given the price for one night B&B.
Rooms are good, service on arrival ok but even though 2.00pm check in room not ready until 3.00 p.m Told us restaurant full so could not have evening meal, which seemed strange but we did manage to eat. Food only really like pub grub and service poor. Had to ask several times for either drink from bar, or tap water and this was before the evening got started, and the place was only half full.
Had some flowers delivered to the room and asked them to write in the card. Card was empty!
Nice view and great location is what probably why they can charge and get this price for one night out of season.
Breakfast next day very poor quality, pastries a bit stale, no reasonable fresh fruit selection.

Generally a Very Pleasant Lunchtime Experience, PERFECT Table (great river views, although some of the seating fabric looked a little tired), GOOD Staff (attentive & knowledgeable, almost overly at times), AWESOME Cocktails (especially the raspberry mojito), TASTY Well Presented & Cooked Food (mains a little frugal for the price and avoid the pork Way Too FATTY) but overall Definitely Worth a Visit on a Special Occasion...
