Perfect Retreat
We regularly stay in hotels throughout the UK and Europe and I can truly say that the Captains Club Experience raises the bar to a whole different level and is way above many of the 5 star hotels that we have stayed in. What set them apart from every other hotel in the area was the outstanding staff and the wonderful setting. The service is unparalleled; the rooms/suites are modern, large and very comfortable with outstanding views across the river. The location cannot be beaten and all the rooms seem to have river views.
Directly outside the hotel are some wonderful river walks, or if you prefer you could take one of the many boat rides up or down the river. The hotel is the perfect retreat to have a relaxing or romantic break. Christchurch town and the Priory is within walking distance of the hotel with it designer shops and independent quirky tea rooms. The food in the hotel is exceptional, we decided to eat in the hotel several times over the weekend both in the beautiful restaurant and in the bar where on the Sunday afternoon we listened to a great jazz duo this really was a special occasion and once again all the staff seemed to go that extra mile to ensure we really enjoyed our stay.
We were there over a weekend and every single member of staff that we met from the porter through to the manager, and everyone in-between was top notch in every way. There is nothing these guys won't do to make your stay the best experience ever.
People who stood out... Tim and Robert and Sarah...and I could go on. They truly make you feel like family. They will spoil you and you will never want to stay anywhere else. You will not want to go home and you will book to go back again.

There was a wedding party on the Saturday which we really enjoyed watching, what a perfect setting, the hotel General Manager Tim seemed to go that extra mile to ensure that the Bride and Groom and all of their guests were enjoying ever minute and that everything went smoothly, it really was, a beautiful day for the Bride and I’m sure she will remember it for the rest of her life.
So much so that we have since been in touch with Tim and booked to have our daughters wedding held at the Captains Club next September.

Been meaning to have a stay since I saw it being built . Very impressed mainly with the high level of service. The room was large - bit of a weird shape long and narrow - disappointed there was no minibar - but the air con and SKY TV were welcome.

The bathroom sink was one of those triumphs of appearance over function - totally glass - but coupled with the modern tap design ensured getting sprayed with water everytime ot was turned on!

Only real beef was the vertical blinds - we have something similar at home - in this case they have tried to cut corners and ordered them too narrowly cut with not enough overlap - and no blackout backing - silly economy when everything else is lush and functions well.

Highlight of the stay was a trip on the 35ft launch 'Nauti-girl' - we arranged an hours trip on the river -early one evering - but were wowed to get a personal cruise right out to the needles - my husband got to drive it - and I enjoyed the champagne. The 'captain' was so friendly and informative and the young steward made sure we felt spoiled. Really cannot recommend it enough - although we had a beautiful balmy evening which really helped.

Had dinner in the restaurant - Ok but not amazing. Really enjoyed breakfast on the terrace the following morning - again the great service and weather added to our enjoyment.

The place is one of a kind - great to experience staff who are well trained and motivated - pleasant change from the usual 'corporate clones' in the big chains- be happy to come back.

Having stayed at the Captains Club early in 2009 and had a lovely time, we returned in the September. Just as good as the first time, Bedrooms great food divine and location 'wow'. Will without doubt be back very soon.

Booked in to Captain's Club a couple of days after Easter, and stayed in one of their 2 beedroom apartments. These apartments have everything you could need, and are very spacious. Be warned the second bedroom is tiny, but it does have its own TV, to the delight of our 10 year old. Anyone much bigger than him, however, and the room would have been a real squeeze.
The kitchen/living area is spacious and well appointed, with flat screen TV , DVD, Full cooker and dishwasher and microwave.
The doors and the walls are very well soundproofed in this place, so you aren't intruded upon by the noise of other guests. The views out along the river are also really nice
The breakfasts are very good, and there's a good choice and good food.
The downsides? - for the money you pay, I would want decent curtains, that are capable of blacking out the lights outside along the quayside, as these aren't turned off until midnight. The bar prices are also outrageous - £9 for a club sandwich, and the spa wouldn't also give you much change out of £100. If having decent mobile phone reception is also a must, you might want to think again with this place.
For the money (and I've stayed in a lot of hotels in this area, so I know it's not the cheapest), I'd aslo expect a gym and/or a pool

we are a group of ladies that meet regularly at the Captains Club for afternoon tea
which we thoroughly enjoy. However, yesterday after giving the waitress our order we were then asked for a credit card to leave behind the bar until we were ready to leave.
My friends and I were totally shocked that a hotel of this standard should ask for such a thing. I also do not like the idea of leaving my Credit Card out of my sight for an hour or so.
We immediately paid for our Afternoon Tea up front and asked for my Credit Card to be
returned. We wondered how many other Customers were asked the same thing. Surely they would not do this for every customer giving a order for a snack or a drink in the bar!
We ladies often use this hotel throughout the year in the Restaurant etc to entertain visitors and families. Sorry Captains Club but you have now lost four very loyal customers!

The staff are excellent, the food was mediocre as my burger was pink in the middle. All the glass and mirrors had smears on them. Thin quilts didn't keep me warm overnight, there was a fan heater in the wardrobe but seriously when it's £220 a night is underfloor heating to much to ask? The air con was noisy and you don't want a hot room to sleep in you just want a decent duvet. The live music is too loud so you have no choice but to listen to it and my husband and I both stopped mid mouthfull and looked at each other because we both thought we heard the singer use a very bad swear word and there was a child there. The rooms are over the bar terrace so it's noisy even with the windows closed. The mirror in the room we had has damage to the glass where the silver has shown through which I thought was sloppy considering it's a four star hotel. Overall the staff are brilliant but the hotels mediocre at best and overpriced. So I wouldn't go back.
