“October wedding reception”
Reviewed 19 November 2011

I stayed at this hotel in october for a wedding reception and thought it was an excellent venue. The service ,rooms and location were well suited to over 100 guests and the staff were very helpful. The food at the reception and at breakfast was delicious. The prices were good value to all who attended and i think people would find it difficult to get such good value for money elsewhere. The bride and groom in collaboration with the staff put in a lot of effort to make it the best they could for everyone. I for one am very grateful.Thank you.

My sons/daughter-in-laws wedding was at Stanton on Saturday 12th November 2011 and I could not fault a thing about the hotel. The Manager and her staff were absolutely brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fabulous in fact the best chicken I've tasted so compliments to the Chef.
The Wedding breakfast room was absolutely beautiful when the staff had finished laying out the table so could not fault anything for the whole weekend.
I would definately recommend anyone to have a wedding there.
Well done Stanton Manor Staff

We got married here in October 2011 and had an absolutely fantastic day! We had over 120 guests to our day function and approx 170 to the evening and felt that the staff coped with the large number of guests very well indeed. We had exclusive use of Stanton Manor and were very much made to feel like it was our home for the day. The open fire was roaring when we arrived and all of the rooms were warm and inviting.

A number of our guests advised us of the 'outstanding' customer service they'd received and most commented on the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff at Stanton.

From our first wedding meeting, right through to the day itself, nothing was too much trouble and the staff were quick to put us at ease and accommodate any requests we had.

Our bedroom had plenty of space, was spotlessly clean and the bed was huge and very comfortable. Again, several of our guests told us they were very impressed with the quality and cleanliness of their room. They were particularly impressed with the spaciousness- particularly in some of the ensuites which they were expecting to be the usual, hotel standard 'postage stamp' size.
The food was superb and the breakfast the following morning was very substantial with a good selection of food to cater for the majority of tastes.
Having visited the venue several times over the past year or so to attend wedding meetings, it is fair to say this is consistently one of the most relaxed and welcoming hotels I've been to. The place exudes an atmosphere of warmth and sincerity and is not pompous or stuffy in any way. At the same time, Stanton still maintains an aura of class, elegance and character that should not be underestimated.
In terms of cost (wedding wise), the hotel does offer a very competitive package that, in our opinion gave alot better value for money than some others in the locality.
We shall definitely be returning to enjoy the delights of Stanton again in the future. Thanks for a truly memorable day.

stayed for a wedding happening there, the event was very well organised & well run (but that's not what i am rating!)

the room was good, although we did have a ground floor room so had people wandering past the room occasionally - would have prefered 1st floor room.

it was a large clean room, good comfortable bed - nice bathroom. (minor point the tv was not working properly),

then the breakfast, this is where the hotel went from a good hotel to an ok b&b.
1 - the oprtions were take it or leave it, we were not told there were other options
2 - my wife's a veggi - asked for a veggi breakfast & there was no such option (no really!!!)
3 - i had scambled egg, it was really runny.
I have had better at £50/night b&bs!
this really left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended)

Thank you for taking the time to upload your review. I'd like to respond to each point in turn. The Wedding you attended was an Exclusive use Wedding, so the Bride and Groom have full control over allocating the rooms to their guests. We can only advise the couple what rooms are available and where in the hotel they are located.
I have arranged for each televison in every ground floor bedroom to be checked to ensure they are working correctly and can resolve any that are not. We were not not advised at check out there was a problem with your TV.
I'm very dissappointed to hear you did not enjoy your breakfast, Previous reviews and guests in the past have commented on the great quality and choice of breakfasts we can offer. You don't mention in your review if you asked for alternatives. We will always try to accomodate where we can. As of tomorrow there will be a vegatarian alternative on the Breakfast menu. The kitchen were not aware you didn't like the scrambled egg, and we would have been grateful to have known so we could rectify the situation and provide you with a breakfast you enjoyed.
Thanks again for taking the time to let us know your feedback.

In some ways, this is a very difficult hotel to review. On the one hand, it's an independent hotel in the middle of the countryside that combines 3* prices with a relaxed yet professional approach that's to be admired. On the other, the rooms' decor is stuck in a 90's style and the staff, while undoubtedly friendly and keen, don't know how to operate to the standards that a hotel of the highest quality demands. They unfortunately strike of mediocrity because they have no knowledge of how to be better, despite being keen to offer it, and the main reason for that strikes me as the result of experience of a better alternative.

Now don't get me wrong, some will love this hotel and a lot of that depends on the room. If you're in one of the more superior rooms, I'm sure it wil be excellent. If you're in a mediocre room (for eg overlooking the side of the hotel), the room will be a good size but with a view of the bins and be noisy in the early morning if your waking coincides with the deliveries. If you're in one of the smallest rooms, you will overlook a well on the ground floor and if you stretch out your elbows you'll almost touch both sides of the bathroom. Oh, and don't ask for Cable TV anywhere (despite the flat screen TVs) because you'll always be on FreeView.

But it's the mismatch between attempting to offer the highest standards of country hotels and the reality that's the real problem; and for that I blame the owner or general manager. If you're offered a table at 7pm in the restaurant when you check in, don't make the mistake of going to the restaurant (where you'll see all the tables prepared for dinner) at 7pm and expect to be shown to your table! "What are you doing here? Did anyone ask you to come through? Go wait in the bar!" will be the riposte; but fear not because when you do so, you can make friends at the bar with whom you can share your shame at such a rebuke. Of course, when you are allowed through, nobody that evening will have sat at where you've been previously been shown.

And while the food is very good (not cheap, but good value for money), you can sometimes expect (on a Monday) to be told that the staff have had a very busy weekend with weddings - which is their code-phrase for "This is why we're not coming through to ask if you'd like another drink". Again, another mismatch with hotels of the highest standard. Same at breakfast... The salmon and scrambled egg is good but don't make the mistake of asking for lemon for the fish! Where do you you think you are? Oh and please don't expect a peaceful departure - even before 9am - because that reception won't get hoovered by itself and those cables should just be expected. And even if you've stayed there for more than 10 nights over 3 months, don't expect to be remembered by name.

So all in all, as an impartial reviewer there are some parts of the hotel that I particularly welcome. The owners have genuinely tried their best and the value of that must not be overlooked particularly in an old building that has good character (I imagine the cost of attempting to make improvements in an environment such as this is horrendous). The gardens are large and (in Summer) fine to walk around. The wedding photos from there would look lovely. But let's be completely frank about this... This is not a 5* hotel, it's a standard, run of the mill hotel that happens to be in a location that's beautiful through the co-incidence of nature; and for that I can only offer it a 3 star review. Please don't be put off - it's fine. But it's not excellent.

PS, the one area that I'm unequivocally in praise of is the cleanliness of the hotel and general housekeeping. It's excellent and whoever is in charge of it is doing their very, very best.

Room Tip: Some rooms are fairly long walk. Do be clear if you have any difficulty walking.
