“Wonderful rural retreat”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

We have just spent a lovely time with Alex in his quite gorgeous Devonshire retreat. The directions are spot on, drive with care and no problems should be encountered. The room and facilities are great, standards are high, breakfast a joy - we thoroughly recommend it and look forward to our return. Seek out the Sea Trout at Staverton- it compliments Longacre. Thanks Alex.

We only stayed for one night, so not the most comprehensive review. However, we had a very enjoyable night. The B&B was very clean, pretty and well presented. Alex was very welcoming and helpful in directing us to a lovely, local pub for dinner (The Cott Inn).
As another review has mentioned, the rooms didn't have any locks, and although we felt safe in the secluded countryside, you don't know what type of guests are in the other rooms.
The house is situated just outside the local village down a tight country lane. Our GPS had real trouble finding it, but a phone call to Alex set us on the correct route, just in case any other guests have trouble finding it!
The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, we even bought a jar of his home made honey because it was so good.
This B&B is perfect for anyone looking for a beautiful, rural escape.

Stayed there last weekend 6/7/13 and it was a wonderfully hot day, the room was nice and cool and very nice decor, very comfy bed, towels, tv, tea and coffee making facilities and milk. Although there wasn't any phone reception there is wifi. Alex is very friendly and makes a great breakfast in the morning. The location was great for an escape from the city. We had a great meal in the local pub, the Live and Let Live Inn which is walking distance down the lane in very beautiful countryside.

We booked into Landacre whilst on the road from London and unfortunately met with a nasty protruding rock in one of the narrow lanes which led to a bad tyre blowout. Our car needed to be taken for repair and we subsequently arrived very late for check-in. Alex was very hospitable & ran us back into town twice (once with all our luggage!) so we could collect our car. Our misfortune gave us the opportunity to relax for a while & enjoy the garden & surrounds at the beautiful property. Breakfast was more than adequate, the honey lovely, and we would gladly stay again.

Lovely setting and told about the hostile neighbour regarding cars. The room was charmless and felt unloved. Bedding was good, tiniest hairdryer on the planet. Previous guests toiletries left in bathroom cabinet. Shower looked great on appearance but was a "run around to get wet" version. Are we being picky or are all British showers like this? Generous cobweb in bathroom so perhaps cleanliness needs attention. There was no key to lock the room door and the host declared that he did not bother to lock the outside door either: he did not see this as a problem! For breakfast there was no fruit or cereal offered, only a cooked one. This was ok but there was a big emphasis on the home produced honey. Perhaps the host should take a leaf out of other B&B's books. On a positive note, he did recommend a fabulous pub for dinner in Cott.

We stayed at Longacre as we were visiting family in the area. We were promptly greeted by the owner and shown to our room, which was good - clean, spacious and well equiped. The house is in a very rural location and only reachable by a series of narrow country lanes, but this adds to its charm. We were very pleased to have been able to book for just one night as many other places were requesting at least 2 due to the bank holiday. The breakfast was served in the upstairs of the property in a very large kitchen diner, where the owner prepared breakfast as we waited, which was a very nice touch. Not quite 5 stars as I like a bigger bed - but I'm just being pickey! Would definitely recommend and revisit.

Would highly recommend this B&B. We spent 3 nights there and it was very comfortable, wonderful breakfasts, spacious room and good en-suite bathroom. The immediate surroundings are very rural and quiet and it is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area with its many beautiful spots. We shall stay here again to continue our explorations of the South Hams.
