Visited on my birthday and enjoyed a great meal, which even surpassed our first visit. Everything freshly cooked including the vegetables which other restaurants often neglect. We can't wait to return

We've been to the Butchers a couple of times mainly for lunch over the last couple of weeks. The sandwiches were on pre sliced bread (reminded me of warburtons) a request for a baguette instead of sandwich bread resulted in one of many little surcharges by the landlord. A charge for paying by debit card, a charge if you wanted the sandwich hot, etc i got the impression that the charges were being made up as they went along despite the menu board. We also witnessed staff being chastised in front of the customers on occassion, which I found distasteful.

We waited a long time for the food even though the pub was not busy, and encountered chaos at the tills while the proprietors tried to work out how to use it, which they seemed to find hilarious, but left us waiting at the bar for an eternity. We were then told quite bluntly that if we wanted to eat lunch in the garden we would have to pay up front ( just in case we did a runner presumably!)

All in all the food was ok, but not worth going back for and the customer service needs some work.

Really warm welcome from the landlord and landlady (of course they're Northerners!) Nothing was too much trouble for them.We were eating late with our two girls,as it was a bit of a last minute decision to go out.We all enjoyed our meals, however were beaten by the portion sizes!!!We didn't manage desserts.
Quality food cooked to excellent standard, using locally sourced ingredients.Good varied menu.Would definitely visit again if we were in the area again.
Wishing them every success in the future,as they deserve to be appreciated.

We found this pub whilst driving around and using trip advisor. What a find , we chose the 2 course Sunday lunch menu, Seafood & Chilli Risotto to start , then Roast beef with all the trimmings . The Risotto was possibly the best I have had and a very generous portion for a starter. Then the Roast beef came out , again a very generous portion a huge piece of beef that was cooked extremely well and lovely and tender, crispy Yorkshire pud with roasties and very nice gravy.Couldn't have even attempted the desert menu we were so full. Great landlord and staff and friendly locals ! Will definitely pay a visit when we are next in the area.

I have enjoyed the hospitality of this lovely village pub and the hosts Phil & Vicky on several occasions in recent months. Its lovely to just pop in for a drink and some friendly banter, or enjoy the monthly afternoons with DJ Dave. However it is the food that particularly impresses me. What I like about their menu is the fact there is always something that takes my fancy. The steak deal is great value and always enjoyable. The specials board tends to be what I call 'creative cooking' and the options are always using the best of local produce on the day! The usual menu really does cater for all tastes and the servings are generous. Apart from the food, the outside space is charming! Definitely worth a visit!
