“Worst Premier Inn ”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

I use this chain regularly for work and the Newton Abbott one was by far the worst I have been in. The room was filthy, service poor and it was impossible to get mobile phone reception in the room I was in. That makes a lone female traveller feel unsafe. I had to go outdoors to make a call. Didn't feel staff were very polite when I made a complaint either. Nicest part of this trip was leaving. Wouldn't stay there again

You never expect a lot from Premier Inn but they usually tick the boxes and are easy. This one was let down by three things: Systems down at check in which meant no keys. Breakfast service appalling. Most importantly though (as other reviewers mention) you can't open the windows and the electronic ventilation is automatic and VERY noisy. Terrible design, and while I'm sure it is well intentioned, it's a bad idea...

Staff are very helpful and polite. The room we had was very quiet and very clean.
The location is so easy to get to being next to the race track those are the only signs you need to look for. Also no messing around with taxi drivers not sure what hotel you are stopping in.
The restaurant next door is very nice and well layer out.
We had breakfast and got seated very quickly. The food was prepared as per our request. You can order what things you want with out having a plateful of thing you don't want.

We stayed at this hotel in April, on arrival all was pleasant enough. The first night we decided to eat at the Beefeater (which was a Sunday) meal ok but could have been slightly more pleasant. On the second night we decided to return to Beefeater next door only to be told NO tables for at least over 1hour we should have booked. No one had advised us about this (in hindsight we should have known). Return to reception to ask about this situation only to be told we should have booked as it can get busy, asked why they hadnt informed us of this on arrival total blank. But if any help there were places to eat in Newton Abbott. Having young children with us made it slightly more difficult as by this time it was getting late for us to find somewhere. We also made reception aware that the room above us was quite noisy at night but were told they would be going home that day, but the room was occupied again that night, so back to square one! Wouldnt rush to go back

Room Tip: Room facing racecourse

Nothing to complain about really, typical clean and comfortable Premier Inn. Friendly and helpful receptionist. Room was spotlessly clean and spacious. View was grim though overlooking the asbestos roof opposite from Jewson so don't bother looking for the local Devon countryside here!
Other than the room being a bit hot and not being able to open the window due to the windows being sealed so if you like a bit of fresh air this isn't ideal everything else was fine. Cost was also very reasonable so that was a plus as well.

Room Tip: Certainly avoid the Jewson side!

Stayed here over the May bank holiday weekend (Saturday night) for a family night away. We were in room 101 (directly behind reception). Large room with double bed, two twins and a cot (although we only asked for one single and a cot...)

Clean and tidy as per expectations for Premier Inn - I was primed for issues due to the other reviews but (thankfully) didn't have any.

Noise: there was a toddler in the room above and you could hear them running around in the evening and early on Sunday morning - didn't bother us as our children were up already (6am!!). Didn't hear any adult footsteps - just a small person running. When using the bathroom you could hear the toilet being used by the room next door. Apart from that it was very quiet.... If it was busy you may hear the main door closing or people walking by as 101 is on the main thoroughfare for the first floor- but we didn't hear a thing.

We didn't bother even attempting to go to the Beefeater due the appalling reviews I'd read.....just couldn't face the stress of it all with two small children, especially when you are meant to be having a break!

The only negative comment I would make is that the windows are completely sealed so you cannot let ANY fresh air in at all - I appreciate that this is to keep the noise levels down. However, we like to have the choice of being able to open the windows (even just a few inches) and let some air through in the mornings. Even without running the AC we all felt a little dehydrated and the room rather stuffy in the morning. We wouldn't consider staying for more than a couple of nights due to this.

Free parking, appeared to be plenty of spaces - some undercover.

Good sized Tesco directly opposite with 24 hour petrol station. Asda about 10 mins away by car.

Location is ideal for a visit to Torbay/ South Hams area or to go up onto Dartmoor. Torquay / Paignton etc about 20 mins away if traffic good - however can be MUCH longer in busy periods.

Better than expected, will probably use again and would recommend.

Room Tip: Room 101, large room, behind reception - no view. Good crash pad.

At the end of a long and exacting day we had a fabulous night at the Newton Abbot Premier Inn. Warm welcome, excellent meal at the Beefeater, great surroundings and support. Staff could not have done more to help us.
