We had a fabulous long weekend here quite by accident when we found that the Inn we were originally destined to stay at had messed up our booking. What an amazing place! I'm so glad the other place was full. Loved the atmosphere, the character, the staff, the food and the tranquility. Woken only by the sound of Red Devon cows cropping the grass outside our bedroom window. If you want proper hospitality and a feeling of 'other-worldliness' in the depths of the Devon countryside, then this is the place to be.

Room Tip: Room 4 (double) is nice and big, has double aspect windows and a very comfy bed.

Kane and his team made us so welcome and I am sure we will return. The breakfast is wonderful, if you are looking for a rural setting with atmosphere then this is the place. Rooms are basic but authentic and very clean. Would definately recommend the Old Church House. Nothing is too much trouble.

The location of the hotel was great, very rural just what we had hoped for. The hotel is certainly full of character and history. However we found it a bit dated with worn out tables and threadbare carpets. The room was pleasant enough if you like red and pink velvet, with 1960 brown tweed armchairs and a hideous wardrobe, but the windows were very dirty. The pillows were hard and I could have put up with all this and taken it as 'character' ... BUT - that shower!!!... we could not get any water pressure... it was like someone was dribbling on you..!! You could not even stand under the dribble as it was so weak it ran back down the handle..We complained but were told they could not get any more pressure on that side of the hotel... not good enough to be honest, it ruined it for us.
The food was good as pubs go but slow service.
I would not go back.

Room Tip: Dont have room 10

We really can't praise the Old Church House Inn high enough, the location is wonderful, Kane and his staff are brilliant! nothing is too much trouble, and the locals so friendly, everyone speaks to you. Rooms are all so very individual, nothing like the 'boxes' in chain hotels, and the food is out of this world!

We can't wait to go back!

What a fantastic place, everyone was so welcoming and friendly, the food was superb, the rooms are great, really couldn't ask for more. This was the second time we have stayed there, and both times we wished we could have stayed longer.

My family and I stayed at the Old Church House Inn for two nights. We really enjoyed our time there. The owners were wonderful and we spent several hours enjoying their company in the charming setting room. The rooms were quite nice and cozy, with a view of the meadow from our windows. The breakfast was one of the best we had in England. My three little ones loved the Inn so much that they never wanted to leave. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed this charming Inn. The people, the room and the breakfast were more than we expected. If we are ever lucky enough to find our way back to this part of England you can be assured that we will once again spend some time at the Old Church House Inn. Oh! Also, the Inn is rumored to be haunted!!!

The Old Church House Inn.... from the very start were welcomed by friendly helpful staff and locals. The atmosphere is great and exactly what you would expect from a 13th century haunted inn - very creepy. Having said that I didn't see anything ghostly although we have a few strange "things" on photos when we looked closely back at home..!!
A short distance away is a church and graveyard. We sat in the graveyard at midnight - very dark (no street lights) but how bright were the stars..!!!
At times during the evening, the Inn was busy but the owner, Kane, still found time to spend time with us and share a few spooky tales.
The beer was great - an ale I hadn't tried before called Betty Stoggs. We stayed full board and the food was brilliant.
The Inn hold special events throughout the year - halloween, mediums, etc.
We will definitely be going again and probably time our visit to coincide with one of the special weekends.
