We’ve just held our wedding at the Roman Camp Hotel and it was nothing short of fabulous! I can’t recommend the hotel highly enough. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with Ben Ledi behind it and the river Teith running around it, simply stunning. As soon as you turn off the main road and go under the old stone arch you are in a different world - a quite oasis of tranquillity and calm.

The hotel itself is fabulous. It has so much character, charm and warmth. When you walk through the front door you are met by the most welcoming fire. You then proceed through the residents bar with its grand piano past the pretty little conservatory into the sumptuous drawing rooms with their original silk wall paper and wooden panelling. Meals are served in the spacious dinning room with lovely big windows looking out onto the lawn. Everything about the Roman Camp is lovely, from the beautiful flowers which adorn the huge fireplaces, to the stunning vases on the tables which are filled with fresh flowers, and the candles which are lit each evening and bathe the rooms in wonderful ambient light. All of the bedrooms are unique and they have lovely bathrooms with natural stone floors, under floor heating, huge showers and whirl pool baths – simply heavenly!

What we really loved about our wedding was that we had the whole hotel to ourselves which was just fabulous. It was great to be surrounded by all of our family and friends on such an important occasion and not have to worry about other guests. All together we had 110 day guests at our wedding and they all commented on how lovely the hotel was, how good the food was and how well the wine flowed! This really is a great place to have your wedding. Our guests really enjoyed strolling round the lovely grounds, walking down to the river and having a look at the peacocks!

When doing our research we looked at over 30 venues and none of them were a patch on the Roman Camp, it really has it all: bags of character and charm in a beautiful setting, a great individual hotel with marvellous food and wine and the most friendly and hospitable staff. It really is a gem.

Shona, the Assistant Manager is an absolute delight. She has been an absolute pleasure from the fist moment we met her to seeing her again after the wedding. She is the real deal! Genuine, friendly, kind hearted, super organised and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. She’s an absolute star!

What you get from the Roman Camp is genuine warmth and friendliness. There is a real honesty about the place, there is nothing fake or contrived about it, it does exactly what is says on the tin! If you want to experience genuine Scottish hospitality and warmth, in a beautiful setting, in a great location, where the food and wine are first class, and the welcome is warm and friendly, then this is the place for you!

Callander is a great location too. It has lots of B&Bs and guests houses which were perfect for accommodating all of our wedding guests. Callander is a great place for people who are coming up for the weekend. Our guests had a great time exploring the local area. As Callander is situated within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park many of our guests visited Loch Lomond, Killin, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. They also enjoyed playing golf, going fishing and enjoying many of the walks around Callander – as well as having a wee stroll around the many gift shops in Callander!

To sum it up, the Roman Camp is the perfect country retreat! Whether you go there for afternoon tea, lunch, dinner, an overnight stay, a cosy winter wedding or a gorgeous summer wedding you will have a truly wonderful experience. No wonder so many guests go back year after year. We are certainly hooked! As are all of our family and friends!

I searched online for a nice hotel to stay in as a birthday treat for my fiance. Normally we stay in Apex and Hilton hotels and I wasn't sure what to expect from the Roman Camp hotel. We walked into the reception area where there is a log fire, we were greeted warmly and offered a tour of the hotel. The room we had was fantastic, a huge bed, modern and spacious bathroom with jacuzzi and in the room a tray of fruit with a decanter of whiskey awaited us. The large bay windows could be opened up and allowed a walk straight out to the garden. The hotel is just off the Main street yet you really do feel that you are in the middle of nowhere.

The breakfast was very good and the service excellent.

We had a wonderful stay and would definitely go back. It's a hotel full of character and a refreshing change from the modern Apex/Hilton hotels that we are used to.

I booked the hotel for my husband's birthday weekend as a surprise. The room was very comfortable, more of a cosy amosphere as opposed to a mod-con, high tech environment! The jacuzzi topped it off. The meals were stunnung, complemented by a crackling fire in the dining room. The staff were exceptionally helpful and professional. They were there when needed but not interferring. We will be back next year.

We stayed for two nights in a pet-friendly garden suite and found the whole experience was well above our expectations despite the fairly hefty prices. We enjoyed superb fresh food from a menu which actually appears to have been thought out rather than slapped together for convenience. Service was friendly and informal but always professional - therefore perfect as far as I'm concerned. Our room was large but a bit dark, lighting could be improved as could the furnishings which were comfortable but not up to the standard of the lovely library or drawing room. Our bathroom was exceptionally spacious and well-equipped: underfloor heating, large modern jacuzzi, excellent large shower.
This hotel is pet friendly, always a good thing, and the attractive grounds include informal woodland areas where dogs can play without upsetting those inevitable guests who don't like animals.

My only annoyance was the lack of wifi - there was a poor signal in the reception area but it kept failing so I ended up standing around Callander stealing connections from local houses.

All in all, I'd plan my next trip to Scotland to include a stop at this hotel if possible - good ambience, comfortable, excellent food but not pretentious.

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. We searched throughout Scotland for a location and from the minute we went to the Roman Camps we knew we wanted to get married there. A year before our wedding we stayed at the Roman Camp a lovely peaceful location, the food was excellent and the staff extremely accommodating - this reassured us about what to expect on our wedding day.
On our wedding day, the hotel exceeded expectation, I was greeted by Shona, the wonderful hotel manager and taken to my room where nothing was too much trouble. The guests were extremely well looked after throughout the day, the food was amazing, drinks were constantly refilled and the location just perfect. We could not have asked for anything more. Since our wedding we have had loads of letters complimenting our choice in our wedding location, with some pointing out that the wedding meal was the best they had ever tasted.
I do not understand why this is classed as a three star hotel, I have stayed in many 5 star hotels and resorts over the years and none even come close to the Roman Camp.
Finally I would just like to mention that Shona, the manager at the Roman Camp - wonderful and we could not have had such a successful day without her. From the minute we booked the venue, Shona was in touch throughout and nothing was ever too much trouble. The Roman Camp Hotel is Scotland's best kept secret and with Shona as manager, you are guaranteed a wonderful wedding or relaxing break!

I have just came across this website on reviews of the Roman Camp and thought I would add our experience staying at the hotel.

We chose to get married at The Roman Camp on the 6th August 2007 as we wanted our day to be intimate, cosy and with a small party they could all stay over night. Our guests could not fault the hotel for their service/rooms/food and views of the gardens and the river teith.

My husband and I are going back for our anniversary in a few weeks as it holds a special place in our hearts. The hotel is meant to look from the period it was built inside and out and not to be modernised however, the bathrooms were all refurbished and superb with spa baths and large walk in showers which went down a treat!!

It is a credit to it's owners and Shona was fantastic and very helpful throughout our day.

We stayed at Roman Camps for three nights and enjoyed every minute. Tired of corporate chains we decided to go for something different, and had heard good reviews.

Everything was different, the bedrooms are all individual and perhaps slightly oldfashioned, but have character, and importantly, the plumbing and heating are up to date. There was complimentary fruit and sherry in our room.

All public rooms are delightful, with soft sofas, inviting fires and a lovely conservatory, completely in character with the house.

The chef is top notch & the food was amazing, I would be prepared to stay again just for the food! Not to mention the friendly and helpful staff

An added bonus were the beautiful grounds where you can stroll among rhodedendrons & through bluebell woods down to the clear river Teith .It is very peaceful.

Alltogether, a lovely experience and one we hope to repeat.
