Ok its not the Ritz, but at £30 for a room, and breakfast what can you say? It was clean, the staff friendly and attentive and breakfast in the Edwardian? restaurant a pleasure. I will be back on another budget trip for sure. Reading the reviews I'm not sure why some folk leave home!

Room Tip: Ask to be in the main part of the building near reception

I rather like it. It's quirky and I know not the "smartest hotel in town" but the staff are more polite than many a classy joint I've stayed in. Breakfasts are more than adequate and I've not had a sleepless night. If you want ritz Carlton, don't come here but if you want faded grandeur and quirky then you'll enjoy it. Good to see the owners "trying" which I don't see in many upmarket places :)

Stayed 1 night. Staff great, dinner very acceptable, tasty & hot & a decent choice BUT room 220 beware. You have to share toilet experiences with your room mate, so make sure it's a very good mate. Paper hanging off half painted shower room. If you can get the toilet door shut it takes a super hero to open it again. Why don't they put the toilet in the middle of the room if they want you to share your personal hygiene with your room mate? I would have been embarrassed to put a dead cat in there, sadly for me & the hotel I got it.

I stayed at the hotel for one night during my business trip. My experience was good, the hotel is good value for money, I had a decent and clean room. The staff was very friendly and enjoyed the bar during the evening very much.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Arrived at the hotel quite late and found a free parking space outside the hotel. I was greeted by friendly staff. Checked into my room which was pleasant and decided to dine at their restaurant/bar situated at the front of the hotel. I found out the hotel has just been taken over and the new owners have been running it for just 3 weeks and are busy refurbishing rooms. The front half of the property is already completed. These are the premium rooms. The remaining rooms are under refurbishment and the rates are reflected. So depending on your budget you can get a good deal. Tea and coffee is available in the room + TV. Free WiFi in the restaurant/bar. Buffet and full English breakfast was served in the large room next to the restaurant. I will be staying here again in 3 weeks when I return.

A bit of a shame really, because this is obviously what was once a really nice (19th Century?) hotel which has fallen on hard times. First thing to note was that it was very cheap (£34 for a double for the night, breakfast £10 extra) - we needed to get up for my father's funeral in a hurry and we looked for the cheapest we could get near to Stirling.

So, this was obviously re-decorated some time back in the 1970s or so and really not since then; it seems clean enough but (for instance) the bath came away from the wall when you stood in it to take a shower, the bed linen looked clean but very old with old stains and really everything was old, worn and falling to pieces.

An amazing old place, very big and rambling and probably has a fantastic history - I suppose you get what you pay for, but really this was very, very basic indeed.

Room Tip: Not really sure - the signs on the door indicate it has suites named after whiskies which may be bet...
