Booked this hotel for an overnight as we were visiting Callander for the day, the hotel is very old as is the décor, fittings and furniture, don't think a penny has been spent on it in the last 50years. The public areas are filthy and there was a horrible fusty smell all the way to our room. We paid extra for a superior room and to be fair the room was massive with lovely views of the lake/river and the main street, the bed was the biggest bed we have ever slept in which was great as was very comfy, the bathroom was also massive but very much in need of an upgrade and a good scrub, we were also disappointed with the breakfast and the restaurant again was very shabby would defo never stay in this hotel again and to us it looked as if it is being run into the ground as I would imagine it would cost many thousands of pounds to bring it up to a reasonable standard.

Room Tip: I dread to think what the basic rooms are like as ours was a superior and still extremely grubby

Had dinner in the dreadnaught before and it was great so booked a room this time and what a big mistake. Lovely looking building on the outside but far from it on the inside. Massive cobwebs, black marks showing through the cream paint, and dirty carpets. Clean bed and good breakfast but needs a lot..... Of TLC.

Large group of 34 walkers stayed here for 2 nights. Yes, some of the facilities require to be updated. Staff worked hard to make our stay as comfortable as possible, all complaints dealt with quickly. Our meals were excellent as was the Sat evening entertainment.

myself and 3 friends booked in for an overnight stay and breakfast.we were given a friendly greeting at reception.our room was basic.great comfy bed.modern telly.bathroom very dated but served its purpose, cigarette end in bathroom questioned if rooms had been properly cleaned but apart from that room was great.a great nights sleep with no noise of banging doors which was great.spent a few hours in bar.only us and 2 more people there over a 3 hour period yet our table ended up with 3 hours worth of empty bottle and glasses so lazy bar staff not doing their job as they were completely dead.breakfast in the morning was amazing and a large plate full and when asked 4 more toast it was brought straight away.breakfast staff there were chatty and friendly and we felt very welcome.overall thoughts are we all had a lovely stay but they have to keep thiuer eye on the ball to up the standards in places just ever so slightly.

Room Tip: we had room 227,great room but showers need brought up to date but they served the purpose

I cannot even begin to start at how disgsuting this hotel is. We are a young couple who went to stay over in Callander for the evening. We arrived at the hotel at 2pm, there was no-one at reception so we had to ring the bell, when someone arrived all we got was a "Yes?" should have known then that it would not be a good start - the person who came to reception was clearly not a receptionist and we were told that we could check in but we couldnt go to the room until 3pm which was fair enough, however we were charged £75 for an "upgraded" superior room from £65 and after I had seen the pictures on the website we were expecting something alot nicer! Safe to say the hotel is something much like Fawlty Towers- the place absolutly stinks of damp and doesnt look like it has been touched since the 1900's. When we were finally allowed to go up to the room, it was unclean (especially the carpet) and certainly not a superior room. When I went back to reception to state that we had not been put into a superior room the "receptionist" and manager were very defensive and stated that it was in fact a superior room because it was bigger. If that was a superior room I dread to think what a normal room looks like! the response I got was "if you dont like it then you can have a refund!" How very professional! I would avoid this hotel (if thats what you can call it) at all costs unless you want to be very dissapointed!

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs!
