We had a spectacular day with Andy in the highlands. He was a wonderful guide with lots of knowledge to offer, and made the day enjoyable with our 8 year old son. Andy’s patience with all the questions from our son ranging from interesting to very odd was amazing. We looked for Nessie, visited the Loch Ness exhibition, explored Clava Cairns, visited Dunrobin castle where we saw a spectacular falconry exhibit, and walked through Cawdor castle with its extraordinary gardens. I’d highly recommend a tour with Andy, and hope to come back and visit again!
Hi Bonnie,
Thanks so much for your great review.
I had a great time with you all, and Miles is a great wee guy. I didn't mind the questions at all - in fact many of them made me think quite hard about my own country!
So delighted that the places we went were enjoyable, and you will all be welcome back any time.
Best,
Andy
Very much enjoyed our 5 days spent with another couple of friends and Andy as he proudly showed us around his beloved homeland. He is very adroit and keen to share the history and lore of Scotland and can knit a saucy yarn out of any question you can ask (and, as he says, there are no dumb questions.) He was prompt, courteous, attentive, but not overly so and very upbeat and did I mention funny. Clean, spacious comfy van stocked with water and other necessities and was a very good and cautious driver. Love that he can and will change up the itinerary even on the fly, making it a very personal tour indeed.
Thanks for such a great review, it is very much appreciated.
I'm delighted that you had an enjoyable trip, and for my part it was a pleasure to have such entertaining guests with me.
Feel free to get in touch if you ever want to come back, you'll be welcomed with open arms.
This was a trip 26 years in the making. My husband, grown children and I are indebted to Andy for sharing the history and showing us the sites of my and my childrens heritage.
We have seen places and heard stories that we would never have known about if we had taken a regular tour bus. The flexibility in the schedule was appreciated immensely, whether it was to have a bowl of soup or hang out with the coos a bit longer or make a slight diversion, Andy was always ready to accommodate our requests when possible. Andy was able to converse, with knowledge and humor, with each of us about our individual interests whether it be archaeology, medieval weapons, politics, scotch and various other subjects. The 9 days were very busy but also flew by too fast.
We look forward to heading back and exploring the areas with Andy that time did not allow for this trip.
Great having you all with me, Karen.
Guests make tours, and it was a pleasure to show you Scotland. You are all welcome back any time.
My friend and I traveled to Scotland September 6th through 15th. Andy was our tour guide every day that we were there. We cannot say enough good things about him! He took us places that we could have never gotten to on our own, had an itinerary for every day but would allow us to change it if we wanted to if it would work out. He was so easy going and would pull over whenever he could so we could could get a good picture, and was so patient whenever I insisted on stopping at one more shop to find just the right souvenir! He would be giving us the history of wherever we might be and before we knew it we would have other people walking along with us because they thought he worked at the place we were visiting. Andy has a great sense of humor and a terrific knowledge also of movies, television and actors. There was never a time that we felt uncomfortable, it was really just like like 3 good friends traveling all over Scotland! We just wish he was available in other countries, it would make traveling a lot easier. I would highly recommend Andy for your time in Scotland, if it's one day or twenty he will make your trip unforgettable!
Hi Robin,
My thanks to you and Sharon as well, for being such great fun on the tour. It's great to have guests who are fun and so well informed as you are.
Remember, there's a lot more to see if you ever want to come back!
Best

I am a believer in the value of the real stories, and opinions, TA posters offer. It is an excellent resource for trip planning. However, I did not find Andy on TA, but rather through another tour guide who was not available during our trip. So, while I did not find all of the five star reviews posted here before engaging Andy's services, I am not surprised by the unanimity of thought about him.
My wife and I spent 4 1/2 days with Andy, asking him to pick us up in Glasgow, show us the Highlands, and return us to Edinburgh. As ones who prefer independent travel, and the preparation for it, we nevertheless did turn to Andy for his guidance long before we met him in Scotland. He always was prompt, thoughtful and frank when responding to our pre-trip inquiries. Essentially, he gave his time freely without asking for a penny (or pound) more than we would be paying him for showing us a good bit of his country. He prepared various iterations of maps showing itineraries we thought might work until we hit upon one that seemed to make the most sense given the time we had and the extent of ground we wanted to cover. Yet, as we worked on implementing our plan we made changes that Andy was happy to effect.
While guiding was not Andy's planned career, the circumstances that led him to it certainly were fortuitous, not only for him (he loves it) but those of us fortunate to hire him. He is warm and personable, and is happy to expand or contract his imparting of information and knowledge to accommodate the preferences of his guests. He is very much someone who is comfortable in his own kilt, but will conform to anyone who is not. We let Andy be Andy, kilt and all, and encountered more than a few tourists wanted to chat him up (and be photographed with him). Ever gregarious, Andy would oblige like a down-to-earth celebrity, but without losing sight of his guiding guests.
Using Andy's suggestions, we saw things worthwhile we likely would not have encountered on our own, stayed and ate at spots we probably would not have uncovered, and got to know a real Scotsman (and indirectly his family too!). One thing that particularly impressed us was how Andy came with us at all of our stops to share his in-depth knowledge of what we were seeing and its importance. He seemed to know more about the castles and their history than the docents who were there continuously (and he bought more from the chocolatier we wanted to visit than we did!!).
Andy is someone who wants to know your interests to enable him to tailor your experiences to them. In essence, he sincerely wants you to make the most of your time with him. To help you remember those times, after our goodbyes he sent a map reflecting the journey taken together. While it certainly is a nice keepsake, the real memories are those Andy helped create.
So pleased you enjoyed the trip, Jim. It was great fun fitting it all in for you both, and yep, the chocs were very good, weren't they?
Come back soon and you'll be very welcome.
Andrew’s background of growing up in Scotland, living in many cities in Scotland, working as an anthropologist, his interest in history and world events and his passion for interacting with people makes him the perfect guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the 3 days we spent with him. He is very customer service focused, is full of great stories, and was an excellent driver. Always prompt and courteous, he treated us so well. We really enjoyed touring with him. Also, really enjoyed that he always shows up in a kilt.
Thanks so much for your kind words. It was great to have you with me, and I'm just sorry it wasn't for longer. Look forward to welcoming you and yours back sometime soon.
All the Best
Andy
