after a visit to bude we called into this Cornish pub . on walking into the place we should have turned on our heals it was very unorganized the staff did not seem to have a clue. we did stay big mistake i had a rump steak which should be simple enough nope well over cooked and as for the size of it well 3 mouthfuls and it was gone there were greasy limp chips and some sort of burnt onion thing no batter at all , the mushroom and tomato were cold . there were 4 of us that ate i cant speak for the others but none of us enjoyed our visit and will not return. the bill for all four of us was just short of £100.00 so you would think you would be adequately full nope i went to the shop next door and got a pasty which was lovely , maybe we all should have done that to start with we would be about £85.00 better of .

Had the surf and turf, portion was ridiculously big and meal was just one big mess. Some things burnt, some undercooked and tasted awful. Wouldn't go there again, you get better pub grub at weatherspoons and for half the price!

We called in here to have a bite to eat one evening. It was fairly busy but the staff were very attentive. The food is gorgeous we couldn't fault it at all. Well worth a visit.

I live locally and have first hand experience of the demise of this traditional public house in particular the current poor quality food at very high prices. When it was first taken over by the owners of the bush inn the standards were extremely good and could arguably been classed as the best in the area and quite rightly the food commanded a high price. What a difference it is today, the high prices remain but there is no quality to the food being served. My opinion is not based on a one off bad meal - every chef can have a bad day but based on the last two visits to eat at this pub. On the first visit they tried to pass off an unknown blue cheese as Stilton which was put into the advertised Stilton cheese sauce which neither tasted like Stilton and the sauce was gravy powder water, and this blue cheese melted into it - quite revolting When challenged they admitted the cheese was not Stilton and commented that was the way they made cheese sauce! The steaks ordered were not cooked to order, arriving cooked well done no sign of the medium and rare steaks ordered a complete lack of understanding or care, the staff adopted a take it or leave it attitude.

A few months later we visited again this time avoiding the steaks and sauces and ordered the simplest of pub food which we thought would pose no problem even for the most inexperienced cook! Oh dear how wrong could we be the two starters deep fried Camembert and garlic mushrooms in a cream sauce! I know I should have avoided the sauce after my last experience! The deep fried Camembert was over fried very dark brown nearly black and was so overcooked the Camembert had turned into a boiling liquid which when cut into flooded the plate, The salad the breadcrumb covered Camembert sat on was a generous portion, there was no dressing.
The mushrooms, I cannot adequately describe the strangest flavoured garlic mushrooms that I was served but to say they were sweet, with a strong taste of vinegar, a large taste of gravy powder served in a dark brown gravy type liquid with onion and a strong hint of chilli powder.does not do justice and the after burn in my mouth would put the strongest vindaloo to shame.

We moved on to the main course having selected Gammon Steak, peas, and home made chips. What could go wrong! The Gammons were cooked but the fat running through them and around them was not it was pure white and had not rendered in any way so had to be laboriously cut away from the meat, the Gammons were covered in cracked pepper, producing a hot peppery taste to the meat - unusual and unexpected and not altogether pleasant. The home made chips were limp and greasy, I suspect that they were precooked and then reheated in luke warm fat - just a guess but however they cooked them they managed to spoil the humble chip. The accompanying fried eggs were overcooked hard yolks and crispy whites, The Pineapple rings were ok and on a high note thee frozen peas were great. We did not risk the desert. When mentioned the food to the staff they were apologetic and immediately reduced the £45 bill by 10% - it felt as though they regularly reduce bills by 10% !

A little chaotic as the meals were being cooked by the chap who was also running the bar. When our food did arrive it was excellent. Look out for the specials for over 60's. Very reasonable price.
