We had been out walking and looking for a nice lunch in Bude and were heading towards Crooklets Beach just before 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday just gone. The setting looked good and we knew there were new owners due to local press and wandered in. The initial reaction from the barman was holding up his watch to announce " if you order in the next 5 minutes ", we would get some lunch and I was happy to walk out and find somewhere more welcoming. However, Kelly rescued the day and got us to sit down with menus and we had a superb lunch, well cooked, presented and excellent value with a great bottle of wine.........we will definitely come again and tell others. Just on that time thing, it is a way of communicating and making you feel wanted rather than a special favour ! Anyway, Kelly was brilliant, very chatty and a credit to the venue.

I've just spent a great four days down in Bude, and I've got to say the family owners and staff at Crooklets played a big part in it. It's clean, family run, the staff couldn't do anymore for you, and the food is amazeballs. Trust me. Oh and it's cheap.

We had a family room which was right up the top so 3 flights of stairs which isn't good with three kids one being a baby. The view from the room was lovely, the room its self was ok still dirty in places and the bathroom smelled horrible had the leave the windows open and the shower head was held on with a coat hanger! Breakfast was good and did kids portions too. So overall ok bnb and hopefully next year it will all be done up to the same standard as the bar area.

Me and my partner were looking forward to our 2 night break in bude, as this was our first time. Never again will we stay at the crooklets. Very nice when u first arrive, round the bar area was all very clean and tidy. As soon as we turned the corner, to go up the stairs to our room, it looked like it had never been decorated. Old fashioned. When we got to our room, it was very disappointing, the carpets felt very dirty, and had stains on, the en suite bathroom was the smallest I had ever seen, with a shower older than the hills. After 10 minutes of being in our room, we had to call the owner up to show us how to get hot water from it. The light was broke, no sugar had been left, so good job we brought our own. I would never come here again, only wished we had booked the brendon arms!!

We stayed here for one night on our way down to Newquay. Staff we welcoming, rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. We had the family room which had a double in one room and two singles in the room next door-all open plan. The room was up a few flights of stairs so not ideal if disabled or elderly. The food was absolutely fantastic, we had an evening meal there and it was delicious! Breakfast was good too. Only thing which let he stay down was that the hot water pressure to the room was quite poor, but it wasn't really a big deal. Location was good, with sea views!

Very friendly and laid back, room was basic but very good value for the price which we negotiated with the owner before we got there. Stayed an extra night as enjoying ourselves so much, would have stayed longer but unfortunately they were booked up. Location is excellent for coastal walking and the beach - both a few minutes walk away didnt have to use the car once. It was surprisingly quiet given that theres a bar downstairs and we both slept well. Apart from the location the best thing about it was the food - excellent cooked breakfast for £5 each - cant even get a couple of coffees for that -and the bar food was out of this world I recommend the sea bass with fried poached egg, the steak burger - (which by the way my partner couldnt finish) the mussels served with chips and bread as a main course and the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had - generous portions and reasonably priced food of high standard.

Friendly welcoming atmosphere, new owners only been there a month. Rooms basic but functional(only needed the room to sleep and shower)with ample storage space,if you want more from a room on holiday i suggest paying double somewhere else. full english breakfast good value, pizzas also good.excellent selection of beers, rattler, san miguel, korev, sharpes doom bar etc.
Pity it wasn't mentioned on booking that right outside room10 window is scaffolding errected.work started at 8 am and listening to the builders conversation was akin to the tv being on in the room.
Overall excellent 4 day break, would recommend for beach lovers and walkers.
