Having been a regular cottage holiday family, we booked this cottage on its looks. We were not disappointed. It sits in a secluded location with a lovely private garden. Great for children to play in. Everything is finished to a high standard and everything had been thought of, including a library of books , DVDs and games for the family on rainy days and even dog bowls , towels and bedding for the family pooch. The cottage has a high quality kitchen and the bedrooms - one with en suite and bathroom are fitted out to a high standard. The welcome was great and although the weather was mixed, we found the cottage was in easy reach of the north Devon and north Cornwall coasts. Thre is plenty to do within easy driving distance and for walkers there is plenty to explore. Eating out was easy with plenty of good places to eat. Many places were dog friendly. The owners provided a comprehensive directory of places to visit. All in all we could not have thought of or asked for more on a self catering cottage holiday. A great place to stay and one that was hard to leave
We had a week at the Old Shippon and I can only echo what others have already said. This is a fantastic property in which to stay, well equipped and beautifully presented.
Paul is very friendly and took the time to show us around the farm which my daughters loved, along with being able to watch the nesting barn owls!
We loved everything about the house. Everything is in perfect condition, and Paul thinks of everything to make your stay extra special. We can’t recomend the house enough.
The Old Shippon is a luxury barn conversion in a secluded and peaceful location but within an easy drive of many local attractions. It is truly dog friendly with throws proved to cover the settees, a very capacious 'crate' for night time, a bucket and brushes to wash off the mud after country walks, and a welcoming bowl of dog biscuits. Paul, the owner, was very welcoming to us all and he and his family have put a lot of effort into creating an idyllic get away. Conservation is a big theme for Paul with barn owl nesting boxes, wild flower meadows, a conservation area to walk in and a very well maintained and furnished property and environs. In a week we visited Bude several times (especially enjoying the canal area), Clovelly (picturesque village set on a steep hillside), Docton Mill (tucked away garden with wonderful cream teas), Sandymouth beach (National Trust, dog friendly), Saunton Sands (huge dog friendly beach backed by dunes), Bideford, Dartington Crystal (in Torridge) and the Atlantic Village shopping centre. We also had several good walks along the Bude canal towpath in the Lana, Pancrasweek, Broomhill, Dexbeer area - a little overgrown in places but easy walking for as many miles as you wish. We also had plenty of time to relax, read books and play scrabble (the Old Shippon is well stocked with games)!
