“Good value for money”
Reviewed 24 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We had a good holiday in cornwall. The barn is basic but has everything you need. This was the first holiday we have taken our dog with us, there was space for everyone! There is plenty of walks around the area and the views from the village are amazing.

“Families with Babies/Toddlers avoid - Budget means Budget”

To say I was disappointed on arrival was an understatement, after a challenging 6 1/2 hour journey with toddler twins we were all exhausted and to arrive to find the cot and highchairs in the garage covered in filth underneath a dirty dog basket wasn’t the best start to the holiday. (see pics) I wetwiped the cot down removing spiders and dirt only to realise that there wasn’t anywhere in any of the rooms where I could fit both cots together. My babies have never spent a night not going to sleep in the same room as each other. It was at this point I cried. The thought of us having to spend the entire week each sleeping with one of the babies really wasn’t the holiday I had anticipated, plus we had contacted the owners to ask whether the accommodation would be suitable for our needs so I was incredibly angry. We managed to concoct a solution from using our own travel cot to act as bed guards to the single beds in the room that had twin beds, but any parent of toddlers who have yet to move their babies into a big bed will understand that this is not something you want to attempt to do on holiday. So I spent the first night on a lumpy mattress worrying that my 2year olds would fall out of the bed.

I must say that all linen, towels, kitchen utensils were clean and smelled nicely however the general ambience is one of ‘musty dampness’, there seemed to be a leak in the bathroom under the bath which we couldn’t tell if the carpets were wet or just cold from concrete floors underneath. We had to purchase febreze and several air fresheners to help aid our time spent here.

Another warning to parents with children, the hot tap in the kitchen was scalding hot, and no sign to warn you that possible burns could be had from simply running a tap.

If you are all adults wanting a budget stay near Bude (15-20min drive) where you’ll be out of the house all day exploring and eating out in the evening then this is fine, its basic but will do the job. (please note that Satellite TV is a old Sky box giving you freeview, in order to watch the DVD player you have to keep removing the scart lead from the back of the Sky Box into the DVD player and vice versa, there is no WIFI and the freezer is tiny probably a pack of fishfingers is your limit!) Anyone with young children, especially babies and toddlers avoid at all costs, it will forever be known to us as the ‘stinky holiday house’

Liked best: Pros - it was clean, quiet and lovely rural location
Liked least: Not suitable for our requirements at all eg cots, also the smell and feeling like everything was cold and damp

Firstly many thanks for this review, I was sad to hear about your experience. It’s a pity you did not contact us once you had got to the cottage as we could have sent in House-keepers to clean and bring in the cot. We may have lent a second from next doors cottage If we do not know there is a problem we cannot help.

We did point out we only room for one Cot, very few cottages have two full size cots.

We offer our landline mobile and email address. So it’s easy to sort things
Dampness when people forget to put the shower curtain within the bath.
We glad linen and towels etc we clean.
The musty provide a guide to all guests including the warm/hot water, people want hot water in general and are on a thermostat but there is a switch to turn it off so a correct temp can be maintained, we have asked the housekeeper to notch down the thermostat. Babies & small children should be kept away from high up sinks.
The agreed Sky Box works with the TV we did provide a switch to go from Sky to DVD It was taken from the cottage. We use Sky as the area as Ariel the offer poor service.
I agree that the fridge freezer compartment is small, that’s why there is a 5 cu freezer, and perhaps you missed against the full size washer and Dryer next.

“Lovely cosy cottage in a great area.”
Reviewed 12 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

The cottage was well equipped with everything you might need for your holiday. The area itself is lovely, and within an easy access to all sorts of attractions, especially a few lovely beaches. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Barn!

“Excellent budget stay”
Reviewed 22 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We have stayed in the Barn 3 nights with couple of friends. The cottage is very well equipped in quiet location. It can get a bit cold inside but electric heater and electric blankets in each bed made p for it. Perfect stay worth every penny.

“Peacefull getaway, home from home, excellent location!”
Reviewed 19 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The barn is an a excellent location, a few minutes drive from the rugged Cornish coast, a couple of miles from the Atlantic highway. The barn is very well equipped, the kitchen has everything you need and more! Very comfortable divan beds in all rooms. The living room area is very spacious with comfortable furniture, tv and dvd player. Lovely big bathroom. The property was very clean. I would say the property would be suitable for those with limited mobility as there is a wide ramp from hallway to living area, the bathroom is very large and the whole property has plenty of room to move about. We didn't take our dog, apart from the barn itself being dog friendly the whole area is! Many pubs and cafes allow dogs, so you don't have to sit outside in the rain with your furry friend! About two miles from the property is a very friendly pub (that does takeaway food), two shops (open until 9pm) and a petrol station with cashpoint . Bude is about 10 minutes away. I would not hesitate to recommend the barn to anyone. The property owners are very helpful friendly and easy to deal with.
