I'm sure this beautiful campsite is a different place at weekends and during school holidays but mid week in term time it was just lovely. we liked the freedom of picking our own spot and the lack of rules. staff were friendly and welcoming and the shower block was very clean. we loved the ponies wandering around - one got into the porch of our tent and broke open a packet of mini cheddars! we enjoyed walking into the village in the evenings and found the Rose and Crown pub lovely. it is also a great location for visits to Lymington and Bournemouth. one negative - on our last evening some time after dark a foreign woman was running around very distressed as her 9 year old son was missing. we went to help search but it was an impossible task in the dark and clearly the incident was over as no police or calling his name. next morning I asked reception if he was found ok and he hadn't been far away having been allowed to go to the toilet on his own and got lost. she said the mother wanted to call the police and close the campsite entry road - too right! this is what should have happened. you never know who is around. my daughter is a PC in the Met and assured me the police would always rather be called as even one minute can make a vital difference. better safe than sorry!

Just got back from a weeks stay at this campsite and was very pleasantly surprised. Having read previous reviews I had my reservations about the supposedly strict staff but our friends were adamant this was not the case so we went ahead and booked any way. So glad we did!! The staff were very friendly and helpful and I genuinely don't know what the complaints are about on here. All campsites have rules and these are usually put in place to try and keep everyone happy!
We had BBQs, laid around, went exploring the surrounding woods in the evening, had our music playing, pitched with friends and could have had a gazebo if out of season!
We were they're during a horrific thunderstorm and the staff were out and about checking the trees and helping people who needed it! First thing the next morning the power was down and they were doing everything they could to try and sort the problem out.
The pitching is very relaxed and you can drive round till your heart is content looking for the perfect pitch to suit you. Showers are adequate (could do with a shower curtain to stop your clothes getting wet) however we avoided this problem by using dryrobes and not taking clothes into the showers!! The blocks are basic but do the job and are always clean.
Ice blocks were a bit expensive at 50p per block every time you want to freeze them plus a deposit had to be paid up front.
The ponies/horses are great, a few people complained about them but if you don't like them then the New Forest is not the place for you! Otherwise as long as you don't leave food laying around and keep it in containers they don't bother you.
Absolutely loved this holiday the perfect place for a relaxing week away from everyday life!

Room Tip: Avoid the road side of the campsite as this can be noisy!

We have just returned home with a bump after the most fantastic week at our favourite campsite.
As usual we were met by the friendly and welcoming staff, easily found the perfect pitch and set up our camp, our main holiday aim was to explore the area by bike, cycling links are excellent and there are many miles of tracks linked together with short road stretches.
Pubs in the area are reasonable and there are many within cycling distance of the site.
Shower and toilet blocks were clean and well maintained and it was useful to have washing machines and tumble dryers on site.
All in all a fabulous week away but look out for the ponies popping into your tent to raid supplies!

Very happy with the pretty surroundings, adequate facilities, plus a few pubs and restaurants within ten minutes walking distance, however......not a pleasurable experience. I enjoy campsites allowing freedom and independence.

We arrived at Hollands Wood on a Saturday afternoon and were checked in smoothly by the lovely staff on site. We had pre-booked online, but arrived one day early. They were able to amend our booking with the minimum of fuss and were great at explaining the layout of the site and other important information.

We were initially a little alarmed at how busy the site seemed, but after driving around for a little bit we found several potential spots to make camp. You are allowed to choose your pitch pretty much anywhere, and the trees and bushes make the site feel very private and not too overcrowded. There are 3 toilet/shower blocks on site and we opted to pitch at the top end of the site near the “top” shower block. Having driven overnight from Scotland we just wanted to set up camp and get to bed but unfortunately there was a fair bit of noise from other campers, although nothing that went on past about 11.30pm.

The following day the campsite completely changed. All the weekend campers left by lunchtime and the site was quiet, peaceful and simply perfect! The New Forest ponies wandered around the site and the way the site leaked in to the surrounding forest and common was beautiful. The facilities on site were very good: the staff worked tirelessly keeping the toilets and showers clean and we had no complaints at all. The site is very big, so be warned that if you camp at the top end you will have a fair hike to reception and Brockenhurst!

We stayed at Hollands Wood for a week and because I needed to keep in touch with work I made use of the mobile-phone charging service at reception for 50p. This was a great little bonus. We also used the laundry facilities during our stay which were again very good.

The selling point for us with this site is the location. Central to everything in the New Forest, or for the days when we didn’t want to drive anywhere you can simply stroll in to Brockenhurst where there are a few good pubs and bike hire, etc. I grew up in the New Forest, but my wife found the idea of ponies wandering through town very novel!

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this site. It is professionally run, ideally located and the staff were super friendly.

Very clean facilities and ample of space to pitch up. The only down side to our stay were a few of the staff that ran it. We found them rude and very abrupt at times.
The location is beautiful but i would advise when pitching, pitch to the right hand side of the site as the main road is very noisy in the morning.

Wonderful stay even though it rained first couple of days ponies kept us amused. Pitches closet to the field do get quite 'boggy' in the wet so beware, also stay away from the pitches around the shower blocks if you are looking to enjoy peace and tranquility, because that is where the groups & schools pitch their tents, screams to make your hair stand on end! Day cycling out to lyndhurst via the firest trails 20 miles next day Beaulieu & Bucklers Hard via forest trails another 20 miles really enjoyable. Love the place will be back very soon.
