The Blacksmith's House

We stayed at the Blacksmiths House for 3 nights whilst in Brockenhurst for a wedding. We had the upstairs Cat & Fiddle room which was very clean, Tidy, with en suite shower / Toilet. Most importantly the bed was very comfortable.
It felt strange when we first arrived as you have a key-code to let yourself in. Personally I felt strange just letting myself into somebody else's house without them being there. That being said Tracy had left out some home made cakes and scones with butter and jam, very welcome after the 4 hour drive.Breakfast was Buffet style continental with lovely home made bread. You could have full English if you want cooked with local produce and eggs from Tracey's hens. This does cost an additional £4 each and you have to pre-order on the day you arrive.
Tracey comes in the mornings to lay out the communal dining table for breakfast and to cook the pre ordered breakfasts. She is a lovely lady and a perfect hostess. Her knowledge of the New Forest is fantastic and she is happy to advise places to go for a day out.
There is free WI-FI available when it works.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Blacksmiths House and I would return myself next time I am in the area. Thank you Tracy for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: All I can say is that the Cat and Fiddle room shared by myself and my Fiance was just right for us a...

Yes it can be a bit disconcerting coming into a house without someone being there but it is a very welcoming house and the homemade cakes and scones are there to settle guests in, and it does seem to work.
I look forward to seeing you again when you will I hope feel more at home.
Best wishes Tracy

we stayed for just one night here. We arrived well before check in time but the lady who was sorting out the rooms said we were fine to leave the car and go off exploring. We got back around 6pm ish, let ourselves in as per the instructions and found our way to the lovely cat and fiddle room. The room was well proportioned, spotlessly clean and had a good en suite bathroom with everything we needed. Homemade biscuits were a lovely touch, as was the discount card used as the key fob (sadly we missed out on using this due to arriving so early and only being there for one night- but a great idea!). Our only complaint would be the mattress was saggy in the middle so we kept rolling into each other every time one of us moved, but this was a minor inconvenience and not the worst bed we have ever stayed in by a long stretch.
I was slightly dubious about the big communal breakfast table but actually there was only one other person there when we went down and they were chatting to the lady doing the breakfasts so we could just get on with our own morning without feeling forced into conversations with strangers, which had been my concern. The breakfast food was good and it was a nice idea to invite you to make sandwiches to take out with you- we did and it was much appreciated.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Blacksmiths house to our friends and family, not least because of its location right next door to the ice cream parlour!

I know some people find the idea of breakfasting with everyone else at the family table a bit off putting but as you say you can get on with your own or get involved with others at the table. Its often a good source of information for guests who want to know where to go and what to see. It often interesting to find out about the best places to eat too.
I hope to see you again

We stayed at the Blacksmiths for 3 nights whilst in Brockenhurst for a wedding. We had the downstairs room The Red Lion which was the disabled room. The room was large, comfortable and VERY comfortable. After a long journey from Norfolk the dining table was laid with cakes and scones which went down vert well with coffee after a long drive. Tracey is a delightful host and knows the New Forest like the back of her hand and recommended some good places to visit during our stay. For reference dogs are permitted but there was no 'doggy smell' from previous 'canine' residents. To conclude I would definately recommend the Blacksmiths House where you are looked after like one of the family.

Room Tip: The downstairs disabled room 'the Red Lion' is as good as any and better than most.

I do try to look after everyone as though they are part of the family. It should be like staying with an Aunt. You know where the key is to get in and there is always something to eat

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay here. Tracy was very welcoming and extremely helpful, especially as we asked at short notice if we could arrive early to drop off our luggage (she very kindly said we could). The room was clean and very comfortable and the afternoon tea (which alas we passed on as we had to meet friends as soon as we had left our luggage) looked delicious. We had a very good breakfast at the communal table (the normal breakfast doesn't include a conventional English cooked breakfast and that suited us very well, though I believe one can be ordered in advance) with a wide choice, including some excellent Aga-made drop scones. We enjoyed the conversation at the breakfast table too. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Our room and its en-suite was on the ground floor but the house is set back slightly from the road a...

Lovely b&B, you let your self in with a key code, finding the room was a bit hard as was provided with the name of the room but the rooms had no names. Free wifi, nice bed and a roll-top bath, complimentary cakes. Breakfast was good but at a communal table, forcing either stilted conversation or awkward silences, why to B&B owners think that people want to talk to other people they don't know? I am happy to talk to people but they were non-communicative event to each other so I read the paper on my tablet instead (I know it's rude but hey, it's better than trying to make small talk). I would recommend this one.

Not rude at all. You are in a home not a hotel and if you want to read the paper at breakfast so you should. I like a big table because that is what I have in my house and its good to give people the opportunity to chat about where to go and what to see. I also think that when you are away its nice to chat to other people in the morning.

Loved this b&b-a lot of history in the surrounding area, quaint village setting.
There were lovely scones and cake on our arrival-which was a lovely thought. The breakfast was lovely with homemade fare. The bedroom & bathroom were comfy and the staff were real helpful. Would certainly recommend.

We hired out the house for a hen party weekend. Tracy was most helpful, advising us on places to eat and things to do and unfazed by the size of the party! She happily responded to all emails/texts promptly and we always felt she was on hand to assist if the need arose.
The rooms were clean, lovely bed linen and there were plenty of bathrooms so no queues!
Free WIFI, tea& coffee on tap and melt in your mouth homemade biscuits made it fell personal and special.
Located by a railway expect a few noisy interruptions but this is outweighed by the positives....next door to a cafe with the best ice cream Ive ever tasted (and Ive had a few!) shop, cafe and restaurant opposite. 2 Spa facilities within a couple of miles. We walked to Le Blaireau restaurant for an evening meal but there were 2 pubs also within walking distance that looked fab.
We went canoeing, half an hour away with New forest activities and on the sunday we walked to the secret garden for afternoon tea (gorgeous venue, nice food, sadly appalling service)
