“Great pub atmosphere”
Reviewed 12 June 2012

We met up with my Nephew who was staying here for 2 nights June 9/10. Great pub grub and if the weather is nice it has a beautiful landscaped garden with plenty seating areas.

“Average food but friendliest pub out of 2 visited! Dog Friendly too!”
Reviewed 6 June 2012

We ate here on our first night in Brockenhurst - we had planned to eat in another pub but they had decided to stop serving food at 8pm!!
We headed here and were told that we would have to order quickly as they were closing the kitchen too! It was a Sunday so perhaps the New Forest closes early on a Sunday!
Anyway we ordered from the large menu - this is a chain pub so has the usual "pub classics". It also has a specials board and some other dishes on the main menu which sounded a bit different. However, we were tired and rushed to order so we went for the classic ribs dish which to be fair was perfectly nice! Nice and hot and plenty of it. Just nothing special.
Having said that - the staff here are very friendly, the prices are very reasonable and - whilst we didn't eat here again - it was only because we tried other village pubs and not because the food was bad.
They allow dogs inside and in the garden which is great.
There is quite a nice atmosphere in and out the pub with people dotted about eating and drinking.
We went again a couple of nights later for a pre dinner drink and some of the food that was coming out to other diners looked nice.
Overall a nice pub - non offensive but also not setting the World on fire with Michelin star food - just good, simple, relaxed pub food. Would recommend for a relaxed evening.

“Good considering how busy they were”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

Staff great, very helpful, despite dealing with some very difficult people (you know, the ones that seem to go on holiday just to get stressed) food was run of the mill, setting had a lot of thought put in, overall very good.

“Decent pub food if you stick to the basics”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

Large pub menu with also a separate blackboard menu with locally sourced foods which was a nice touch. I probably should have stuck to something simple like a steak but tried the sea bass two ways which ended up being a strange plate of mixed up ingredients. My boyfriend had the steak though which was perfectly cooked. Wine list was also varied and well priced. If you choose well you can end up having a decent meal here!

“Pricey but pretty decent”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

Visited the Rose and Crown on a beautiful day and the garden was very pleasant and well cared for. There are different types of seating from nice tables close in to the building and under cover to picnic tables and other types of seating. Customers of all ages.

Staff were very friendly and service was very good. We had a goat's cheese salad and fish and chips. Everything was good and the Rose and Crown do a nice job with the 'usual formula' for pub chains. I did find it rather poor value for money, however, as compared to similar types of pubs. Rather small car park for a large pub so you may need to plan on parking elsewhere in the village.
