“Good food but busy atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2014 via mobile

Finding a pub with a table for 7 is always a challenge on a Friday early evening when not booked. This is a large pub so we managed it. The problem was I that situation as well in that tables were packed in and there was a busy atmosphere in the pub with lots of noise and delays ordering as a result

After that'd thought is was very good. The food once ordered arrived very quickly and cooked very well. The food was tasty and well cooked. We all enjoyed our time there. If I had been at a less busy time I may have given this a higher review but it is one worth visiting.

“Lovely pub, good staff and great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Even when we started mucking about with where we wanted to sit, the staff weren't fazed.

Thought their attitude was excellent.

Nice range of beers and wines, and the menu was also very good.

Couple of us had the steak burgers and were very impressed by them - be warned, they are big! Others were very happy with their food also.

Large garden outside where the tables are nicely scattered so you don't have to sit in the lap of strangers.

I'd certainly go back.

“The village pub with all you need”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Evening supper here finished off a summers day in the New Forest area perfectly. The garden is spacious with plenty of tables, (some under wooden gazebos!), so if the weather allows, try and eat or drink outside. The menu has a very wide selection of freshly cooked pub grub. We went for the venison stew with fresh vegetables which was delicious. Ordering took no time at all and just as we were about to finish our first pints, the food arrived. A nice touch was being asked during our meal if everything was ok for us, (quite unusual for a busy pub?), and our empty glasses were taken away, ( a good ploy to make you order more of the local brew!). The garden is dog friendly and ours was brought a bowl of fresh cold water. My guess is that this pub is as welcoming in winter as in summer because the interior looks cosy but again, spacious. Bar staff were very friendly and upbeat. As the summer evening light dimmed, on came the garden lighting, adding a magical touch. We didn't want to leave. Of the 3 pubs in Brockenhurst, I would make this number 1.

“Lovely birthday treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014 via mobile

We popped in whilst camping in Brockenhurst on the off chance that they would be able to accommodate our party of 10 - they were more than helpful considering the New Forest Show was on and the pub was busy. They allowed us to move tables so we could sit together and there were no issues with the six kids running round the garden.

My daughter, whose birthday it was, was really impressed when the staff brought out a birthday cake (we supplied) with candles and sang happy birthday to her - ut made her holiday. Thank you Rose and Crown!
