I won a weekend away at this hotel and I can say I was very surprised. I've read some of the negative points about this hotel and was a little sceptical before arrival. The hotel is beautiful. We were actually in room 30 the Honeymoon Suite and it was very spacious, very romantic, and had lovely views of the cricket pitch. The hotel has a gym/sauna/spa/indoor and outdoor pools/squash courts/a lovely peacful bar and sits in beautiul surroundings. I'm actually thinking of this as an otpion for my daughters wedding and she is extremely fussy.

While we were there, there was a wedding reception. The room and surrounding area for the reception looked amazing and the bride and groom seemed ecstatic. The reception was kept away from the main bar and restaurant and there was no intrusion or people scrambling over each other.

We ate at the hotel both nights and also for the Sunday carvery. The restaurant has a lovely ambience and the food was lovely. Breakfast was exceptional - so much to choose from you definitely won't go hungry. We ordered Sauvignon wine each evening which was a very nice Marlborough. The wine list covers all tastes. The menu changes each day so there is always something different to choose the food is very very nice.

We hired cycles and went exploring (the hotel provide these at a small charge). The little village of Brockenhurst is picturesque and there are some nice country pubs. We had lunch in the Snakecatcher public house and were seated in the garden - very nice food.

We wanted to say a big thank you to Agi who made our stay very special. But every member of staff was helpful and accommodating at all times - nothing seemed too much effort. Housekeeping visited each evening in case your tea/coffee supplies neeeded replenishing or whether there as anything you needed.

The hotel was very clean. There is ample parking outside and they also allow dogs to stay in somerooms. While we were there people were staying with their dogs but we were never disturbed by the animals and there was no evidence of them actually being around.

Thank you once again for a lovely stay and we hope to return.

Room Tip: I would opt for a front facing room if possible but all rooms are lovely. Some even have a balcony.

This hotel has 4 stars - certainly for the restaurant but not necessarily the rooms. Balmer Lawn is all about location and you can't expect London type style. We have just had a very enjoyable stay, were very well looked after in the restaurant, and the bad was extremely comfortable. I would give the upstairs 3 stars, and the downstairs 4. It is a clean hotel with very accommodating staff. Any gripe would be that it is too easy to hear people in adjoining rooms, especially the interconnecting one we had.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay with us at the Balmer Lawn.

The Balmer Lawn is a family owned hotel and refurbishment work is done as, and when, business allows. It is a bit like painting the Forth Bridge, we're always on the go! This is why we devised our 'Look Before You Book' facility on our website so guests can see each individual bedroom and chose a room to their taste.

My apologies for the noise disturbance that you encountered, but I am delighted to hear that, overall, you had an enjoyable stay with us and that you enjoyed our Restaurant.

I do hope that we may get the chance of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Went to the Balmer Lawn for afternoon tea for my daughters 21st, all the staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. The sandwiches were very fresh with good quality fillings, the cakes very good and the scones with jam and cream were the best I have ever tasted. Very relaxed and cosy atmosphere. I recommend the Balmer Lawn for that special occasion or in fact any occasion!

We recently celebrated our wedding day at the Balmer Lawn and had the most perfect day. Our wedding was over 18 months in the making and Jonathan and Francesca did a great job of looking after us from start to finish. All our guests commented on what a lovely lovely venue it was. Over 35 of our guests stayed the night in lovely rooms with beautiful views. The sit down meal and buffet in the evening were both excellent and the waiting staff so efficient. The hotel even arranged a separate room with a fantastic breakfast (hot and cold buffet where we could all eat as much as we liked) so that all our guests could eat breakfast together away from the main dining area. As mentioned in a previous review the hotel is busy (but surely that is testament to its quality) and is popular for weddings but the weddings are all held in an entirely separate area of the hotel so regular guests aren't disturbed. The function manager on our day was excellent - he was so helpful during the entire day and was always at hand if we needed anything at all. He knew exactly how we wanted the day to go and it was totally seamless. I honestly can't understand why anyone would write a negative review of this hotel. The setting, the rooms, the food and the staff are all excellent and we both cannot wait to visit again very soon.

Room Tip: The hotel has a look before you book function on their website so you know exactly what all the room...

We have just spent this weekend at the Balmer Lawn for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding and what a fantastic time we all had. Many of the guest's booked rooms and were able to book in early and get themselves ready for a 1.30 wedding. The staff were fantastic the whole day just went so perfectly from the wedding ceremony to the wedding breakfast and right through the evening. The only down side to the day was the weather the rain didn't let up all day so we were unable to made use of the beautiful surroundings for photo's . If anyone is looking at the Balmer Lawn for there wedding my advise to you is "go for it" it was just perfect. So to Mark and Nicky we wish you life long happiness and to everyone at the Balmer Lawn you have a massive thumbs up from me for helping to make the day so special.

Quite a nice hotel, always busy (there were two weddings in two days). The leisure facilities were very good & the family room was huge. On the downside, our television couldn't keep a signal & the WIFI was almost none existent. The location is excellent, my kids loved the tiny ponies that hang around.
Would stay again, but there are cheaper hotels close by that we've enjoyed just as much.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay with us at the Balmer Lawn.

Please accept my apologies for the tricky Wifi connection, being located 'in the sticks' does have its downsides when it comes to such luxuries. We hope that BT will install fibre optic cables in the area sometime in the near future. And apologies again with regards to the problems with the your TV.

I do hope that you will consider returning to the hotel in the future, we do offer some very competitive rates during quieter times.

Quiet charm, but certainly at the lower end of 4 stars!!!

A very nice place, but does not really offer the standard the pricing would suggest. Some rough edges would probably be knocked off in an ongoing refurbishment. Not really sure what it is trying to sell itself as.

Quirky and individual would best describe it. Staff were polite and the older members certainly know their business

It can't be all, as this was our second visit, but I will probably try else where next time.

We had to go out via the fire escape from the 2nd floor and I was a little worried for my elderly relatives as the walk way was quite old.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on you recent stay with us at the Balmer Lawn.

As a family owned business the refurbishment work is similar to the Forth Bridge, we do it as and when business allows, and is never ending! But rest assured, the hotel is always a work in progress.

You'll be pleased to hear that the fire escape that you mentioned is actually being replaced this coming week.

I do hope that you will consider returning to the Balmer Lawn in the future.
