This hotel is a great place to stay to visit the New Forest. Room was pleasant, traditonal but good modern bathroom, TV etc. Breakfast was excellent. Nice terrace in the summer. Outdoor heated pool was really good, as was indoor pool. Staff friendly. Definitely recommended.

Dear ASLondon

Your post was made a long time ago, I am very sorry that we did not manage our TripAdvisor listings then like we do now and this is why we did not reply to you post at the time. Please accept our apologies for this.

In the intervening years we have invested heavily in the Hotel and massively improved all of the facilities with the addition of the Saltus Spa and an award winning restaurant producing some of the best food in the New Forest in a relaxed but professional environment in our Beresford’s Restaurant.

All of our six function rooms have been completely refurbished and offer free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and access to external gardens.

All the bedroom corridors and our Grand Staircase have been fully refurbished and re carpeted as have many of our bedrooms.

Whether or not you had a good or bad experience at the time of your last visit I would urge you to come and see us again, I am confident to say that you will not recognise either the physical product or the standards of service across the board.
What hasn’t changed is the iconic look of the building and the unrivalled location of the Hotel right in the heart of the New Forest National Park offering direct forest access.

We have a wide variety of room types and prices to suit all budgets, these can all be viewed using our unique “Choose Your Room” facility on our website.

Please remember to book directly with the Hotel for the best value rates and room allocations. Some believe that they will get the best rates from third party sites, this is simply not true in our case, we have to pay up to 25% commission to the third parties and would much prefer to offer clients who book directly with us the best available rates.

We very much hope that you will come and see us again after all these years have passed.

The staff at Balmer Lawn very nearly RUINED my brothers wedding. We orginised and booked the receptions and rooms 6 months prior to the weeding date. We booked 6 rooms, the wedding menu and DJ all with a lovely wedding co-ordinator who unfortunately left the hotel a few months before the wedding. That was only the beggining of the troubles.
The NIGHT BEFORE we were due to book in with all our guests, my brother called the hotel to confirm all was well- he is very, very orginised- only to discover that they had GIVEN one of the rooms away and the lovely large rooms we had booked 6 months prior (my family travelled from London just to see the hotel and book rooms) they had decided to down grade to tiny rooms with literally 3ft around the bed. The staff hadn't even called to inform us they had given them away, we called them to cornfirm!!
They had NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS and treated my family with zero respect, they couldn't care less.
The worst part was the reception menu, we booked a very expensive menu consisting of steaks and tiger prawns and a veggie menu and what we received was- this is UNBELIEVABLE- burned veggies, something that resembled fish finger meat and beef burgers!! How infuriating and embarassing for us to the guests. The hotel refused to offer any kind of refund on the menu or any of the inconvieniences they had caused - NO REFUND, NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY.
The assistant manager Julian was by far the most heinous person I have ever come across in the hotel industry (and I've been in it for 7 years mainly Bermuda), he had NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS after the wedding party had retreated upstairs, he followed us up threatening to cal the police if we don't be quiet!! There were about 7 of us, it was midnight and we were all going to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE. He was the worst, he wasn't consistant with what the other staff had told us and was making 'policies' up as he went along- he was a joke. It's such a shame because the hotel is beautiful- just the staff are quite frankly crap. The most disappointing thing is that they didn't offer any refund or apology. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Balmer lawn is in desperate need of updating. we were somewhat disappointed after expecting a lot more for our money. The room was old fashioned and musty, bed too soft and far too hot for our liking.
Location is fab, the grounds are lovely, but we wont be going back.

Myself and my wife went to stay at the Balmer Lawn Hotel for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversery. Upon arrival they could not find our reservation but after about 10 mins they did manage to find it. They said they would sort it out and led us to a lounge area where they gave us coffee. Approx 10 mins later the reservations manager who said she that she was off duty came to us to show us two rooms, the first room 42 was a smallish double well funished but with the most fabulous view of the New Forest. the 2nd was a much larger room with a double bed and bunk beds but with a view of the adjoning roof extension, we picked the samallish room no.42. We did not dine at the hotel in the evening but did find a local pub about 2 miles away called the Filly Inn, where the food was fantastic and the menu was substancial. The following morning we went for breakfast, thats where the attitude of the waiting staff was on the whole pretty poor. We ordered poached eggs from the menu that seem to take an age to cook, well about 15 mins actually, the rest of the cooked items was from the hot plates in the reastaurant. We had been given toast with the breakfast but we did ask for extra butter. Eventually the waitress came to us with one extra butter and threw it on to the plate and said here's one to get on with . She eventually did bring another two. On the whole we did enjoy our stay but the attitude of the waiting staff was not really up to standards.

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary under the hotel's 'Easy Like Sunday' offer, which effectively meant that we got a three-course meal, drinks and the normal B&B deal for just over £100.

Because of a minor complication with the late booking we also got a great upgrade on our room, but even without this I feel confident that we would have got good value for money.

The food was tasty and the staff helpful and friendly - all in all, a really nice place and we'd have loved to have stayed for longer!

We have just returned form a 2 night stay at the Balmer Lawn.
The Location is perfect for all trips in the New Forest.
We have stayed in 2 refurbished rooms which reflected a 4 star hotel with a 4 star level of service and a rich Breakfast.

We got a less than half price deal which encouraged us to book with this hotel through booking.com and with a price tag of 75 GBP per Double room it was easy to enjoy the break.

room numbers where 304 & 305 and both were just great.
They have also a gym and spa center, 2 swimming pools and tennis and squash courts. They will give you all the equipment you need for free.

We didn't stay at this hotel but were guests at my Niece's wedding reception. The hotel wasn't ready for the wedding party when it arrived, and it was at least an hour before drinks were served to the guests in the gardens.

There were not enough tables and chairs for all the guests and there was a very awkward 20 minutes or so when this was put right

We were told that food would be served at 6pm, and as one of our party is diabetic, the timing is very important. It was late, and so I tried to arrange for a snack for this person. I was informed by the barman that no snacks were available, not even a biscuit. An energy drink would be the next alternative, but, no they had none of these either. Luckily food was served soon after and we rushed this person to the front of the queue. By the time we got served the food had run out.

I made 'do' with some salad and sat down to eat while my husband went to the bar to get drinks for the table. (There was only one bottle of water per table and we were not allowed to have any more .) He promptly came back having been told that the bar could not accept card payments! I complained to the duty manager about this poor service, who told me that we could set up a tab in the main bar if we wanted too. All we wanted was one round of drinks in the dining area. He could not answer why this was the situation and on questioning him further it transpired he had only been at the hotel for three weeks- he couldn't even give me the general managers name.-he didn't know it.

I went back to finish my food, only to find it had been taken away. I had had about four bites of it. The waiter didn't even appologise. he told me to ask if they could cook some more.

Not only did we have to endure this disgusting service, but the ladies toilets were not at all looked after, During the evening a glass was broken in there and not cleared up even though it was reported. There were very small children in our party that could have been hurt, no one seemed at all concerned when it was reported.

Wedding co ordinator at this hotel- don't have a day off when you have arranged a wedding, best to stay and see that it goes to plan, guest services- take a long hard look at your policies- we are not at all impressed and won't recommend you at all based on our experience. General manager-please train your staff on how to treat guests correctly, and let your new staff know your name so we can write to you.
