A more open camp-site than many others in the Forest. Whilst many of the New Forest camp sites can be overly officious, this one goes too far the other way. The 'dogs on lead' rule is poorly enforced to put it mildly. Half the tents seem to have dogs with them and most didn't seem to be on leads. This became a real pain when looking after a baby and a toddler who is scared of dogs, one dog even made it into our tent! A quick staff drive around now and again is needed.
We are used to roughing in when camping but the toilets and wash rooms were a state.
On the plus side the setting is lovely and the bat tour we went on was very good.

Just got back from camping here over the August Bank Holiday, to say the least we have nothing but an amazing relaxing weekend, with our two young children and family. Roundhill is a great campsite, but THIS did not cause any problems and there was so much space left all over the campsite, we asked a ranger why there was a full site sign up whilst there is still so much space left and he said that there was 600 campers and they were even 10% over booked, but THIS did not cause any problems and there was so much space left all over the campsite, The staff were so friendly and helpful and were happy to answer questions. The shower and toilets were kept clean and tidy, please be aware thou that they do shut each toilet block one by one to clean for 2 hours but this doesn't cause a problem as they do put a notice up to tell you what time they will be shut. I did have to queue for a shower but only for about 20 mins and considering how many people were on site I didn't think this was bad. If you do get to the showers just before cleaning time they will ask you to leave, which is understandable as they have a rota to keep to. There is normally a ice cream van that comes around daily from 5.30pm onwards, Mr Whippy and it is huge :) and very yummy. We camped round by the rally fields and when we were there we found this area to be a very quite area and smaller camping areas under trees and close to the forest edge. Just make sure you keep food away as you will get lots of visits from all the horses and donkeys and they will also try and get in your tent. Just don't feed them as they will just keep coming back and they will not leave you alone, otherwise they just have a sniff around and stop for a rub down and they wonder on by.
We stayed at Hollands Wood last year but we liked Roundhill as it is less shaded and there is much space which is left empty and you don't all fill packed in. We will be going back next year.

Room Tip: Camp up near the end by the rally fields we found this area to be very quite

Having wanted to go camping for some time, my partner, who is a very experienced camper decided to take me here. I was very apprehensive about what it would be like and I was very impressed and loved the site lots of space, clean toilets and showers, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful horses everywhere and set in a stunning location.

We have just come back from a week of camping at Roundhill and have thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that we will certainly be camping here again.
It is a large site, formerly a airfield, spreading out over fields between large areas of heathland and woodland served by three largish shower/toilet/washing-up blocks. The showers are good and hot but there will be queues at busy times, as you would expect.
The site is visited by roaming groups of ponies and cows which adds to the charm of a site that opens up into many tracks and paths into the surrounding countryside.
Weekends are busy and can be noisy late into the evening, but mid-week was relatively peaceful. Barbecues are allowed but campfires are not because of the risk of grass fires. Take sturdy tent pegs as the ground is hard and stony.
The site was great for our two daughters, 11 and 6, as they made new friends, climbed trees and explored the woods. Many families bring bikes as this allows the children to explore further. There was also a visiting ice-cream van while we were there.
One more word on the staff, they were consistently helpful with all our enquiries during our stay. Reception provides an ice-block service, mobile phone recharging and you can also purchase frozen milk.
We are already planning our next visit.

Just come back from a lovely weekend camping with family and friends. Have been to roundhill many times over the past 30 years and would certainly go back again.

Clean site, good facilities and very easy advanced booking.

We're a family of 5 (kids12,10,6) and recently completed a week's stay here. We had been a bit tentative based on some of the negative reviews particularly with regard to officious site staff. Nothing could be further from the truth; the staff were very friendly and diligent, often seen around the campsite picking up any rogue litter. This is right in the heart of the New Forest heathland and very natural surroundings. There is an amazing amount of space to secure you're own relatively private pitch. Ponies and donkeys wander through the site, occasionally foraging for food but that's all part of the charm. Sure, the site does get busier and noisier on the weekend but that is to be expected. Arguably I think the staff could have been more vigilant about late night noise on Friday/Saturday nights and also the barking dogs. Again, I think these are just common symptoms of most campsites. The toilet/shower facilities are ok but rather limited for the number of pitches. The showers could do with an upgrade. A freezer block service would be helpful too. All in all, a great site.

Room Tip: Pick a pitch around the edge for more privacy by the trees.

What a great campsite! We had a lovely few days, the staff were great and the site was very clean and tidy. You can pitch where you want which was perfect for us and we found a lovely spot away from too many other people. We had two dogs who were made very welcome and enjoyed the wonderful walks off the site and made good use of the doggy shower! This site feels like it is right in the heart of the forest and like you are going back to nature but with the luxury of good, clean toilets and good, clean and hot showers. The ponies, cows and donkeys wondering around the site made it really special. I don't have kids but they all looked like they were having a wonderful time cycling around the site and playing rounder's etc. I can't wait to go back for another peaceful getaway.

Room Tip: Take decent tent pegs as ours all bent from stones and tree roots.
