Just back from 3 nights at this site. It has friendly, helpful staff, is kept clean and tidy and the location is great for access to walks and cycle rides in the forest. One of the joys of staying here is watching the ponies, donkeys and cattle roam freely throughout the site. One of my favourite campsites in the UK.

The showers are clean and hot, the staff are friendly and you're in a relatively central location but they don't tell you about the HORSES!
On day 2 of our trip after waiting eagerly for the resident horses to come closer to our tent we were overjoyed when a couple of them wandered right up to our tent. The joy was short lived as the beasts found the unopened bread then continued to rummage through bags and boxes (all sealed) finding and eating over £20 worth of food (including my doritos!). To be honest we all felt a little helpless as shouting, clapping and driving the car towards them didn't work so that night we looked up what to do.. HORSES ARE SCARY IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!
Method 1: Raise a big stick above your head and walk towards them with confidence.
Apparently they measure you from top to bottom and if you're taller they'll flee
Method 2: make loud horsefly noise behind them (keeping far from kicking distance) and they'll bolt to avoid being bitten
Over the last 3 days of camping we used these methods effectively to chase horses away from not only our own camp but others as well. Great fun!

After turning up at a fairly late hour without a reservation, we were more than expecting to get turned away - but as it turns out service at Roundhill was fantastic. The staff were particularly friendly - and when they realised that we were a group of teenagers (and thus likely to make at least a bit of noise), they allocated a special - slightly off the beaten track area so we could make a bit of noise without disturbing other campers.

The facilities were clean, the wildlife thriving and the site silent come nightfall, proving for a pretty good sleep. The ground was a bit waterlogged after a spot of rain, but that was a non-issue since it stopped relatively quickly.

It had a pretty picturesque lake on site, and a fair few quiet roads surrounding the site.

Would return again!

This was a good campsite to stay - but did get very soggy in the rain - we all found a spot where the ground was OK even with big puddles all round - fun for children to splash in!
Toilet facilities were really good and staff on reception helpful.
You can't get them to freeze your ice blocks but you can hire ones for not much.
It's in a great setting and feels informal (no-one coming round checking etc).. No open fires but that is fine. Family friendly - no loud noise.
Usual queues for showers etc but you get used to that.
Just bring wellies!
