The most picturesque cottage restaurant in the New Forest. Lovely garden room with good touches. Breakfast was to die for!! Fabulous quality with everything freshly cooked to order. Some good pubs and restaurants in the area. Great stay.

Very unusual quaint hotel, but do not stay in the Jasmine Room.

The staff, the dinning room and the breakfast was excellent, you really could not ask for better.

BUT we booked the Jasmine room and we were not happy with that, it was in the main cottage, and the toilet and shower room (which was very small) was outside the bedroom. When we went to the toilet in the night we were aware of the possibility of disturbing other visitors, as there are 2 other rooms in close proximity. We were also aware of the traffic noise as the weather was hot and we needed the windows open.
The stairs to the bedrooms were extremely steep.

Very good location for exploring the New Forest.

Room Tip: Everything was good but do not book the Jasmine Room.

Stayed here whilst visiting relatives in the area. We had one of the garden rooms which was clean and comfortable. Anja the owner is the perfect hostess and made sure that we had a very pleasant and memorable stay. Excellent breakfast.
We would certainly return.

The thatched cottage was really lovely. It had everything needed in the room, which was beautiful, and breakfast was delightful. We stayed two nights and had good nights sleep both nights apart from some noise from building work on the first night. The Thatched Cottage was very central to shops, restaurants and pubs with lovely walks around. Staff were friendly and Brockenhurst was very central to the New Forest. Would stay again!

We had 2 very relaxed and enjoyable nights at The Thatched Cottage. We were made to feel very welcome and our room, like the rest of the cottage, was decorated in a quirky and individual way. The breakfast choice was excellent and very tasty. We'd definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone (apart from those who don't understand quirky).

The first night we ate at Bistro 26, which had an interesting menu that exceeding expectations - service was also excellent. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for Le Blaireau further donw the road in the Careys Manor Hotel. The decor was encouraging, and the menu and food ok, but the service was so poor I gave up waiting for the dessert menu.

We have been going here with my mum, who lives in Germany and loves cream tea, for the past 4 years. Its one of the few places left where you can get and authentic cream tea with home made scones and cares. We had a great selection of sandwiches and cakes and it was all delicious.

Stayed with my wife, at very short-notice couple of days at this 400 year-old cottage for our Wedding Anniversary. Left it very late to book, but this gave us the chance to try out two different rooms! (Both on 1st floor). First was 'Jasmine' (they're all named after teas), cosy, with adjacent bathroom rather than en-suite. Stairs for some might be a bit steep, though my wife is easily 'scared' & they didn't bother her - nor me, who although 'middle-aged' normally suffers with steep steps due to health. Clean & functional, very quaint, & very much an old English Cottage. (P.S. I'm 6ft 1" and had no problem with room height, just watch some beams on the doorways).

Breakfast is *SUPERB*. Watch out for some of the hotel comparison sites, they make it seem as if only a continental breakfast is included in price, this is incorrect. Visit the hotel's own website, there you'll find under "Menu's" that a full-cooked breakfast IS included. Very tasty too (& filling!) - this was the 'Thatched cottage' (one of four choices that you'd go for 'if hungry'!) And that was without diving in to the cereal, the *extensive* continental breakfast (pastries, meats, cheeses etc). Very large cafetiere (good!). We had Blueberry pancakes the next day, lovely - huge plateful - cooked beautifully.

Anja is attentive & very friendly without being overbearing, her lovely daughter Anna was in the kitchen. They are laid-back & welcoming. Not strict on rules & regulations. They are 'old hands' at the bed & breakfast/hotel business, and it shows. I very much doubt there is much they've not come across.

Teas are served from 11ish - they look fabulous. The on-site parking is fine - plenty of room for a car each at the front there, and contrary to what was written on another review, I wouldn't worry too much about what was left in the car. Yep, the "Foresters" is a pub just a few yards away, best for beer rather than eats.

But Brockenhurst village is just minutes away, and they've an Indian Curry house, Chinese, Italian, plus some old-style shops, as well as Co-op (open till 10) & camping supplies/hardware stores. Quite sleepy, but well-served by rail/road/bus links. You can get to all parts of the New Forest from here, no problem. And just a short drive (or ride/walk) to nearby Lyndhurst. Beaulieu just down the road. We went a bit further onto Poole for old times sake.

Next night we stayed one of the best rooms - the Lord Earl Grey (inc. 4-poster bed). Big difference in all sense of the word. Much more room, even a 'walk-in wardrobe'. Typical English cottage finishing. Very pretty building from the outside. They have wireless, (even if signal a bit weak upstairs - tip - if in 'Jasmine', the strongest signal is in the bathroom!) :)

Overall, very happy as they try their best to please, and make you feel welcome & special. Very grateful for our unexpected glass of fizz on our anniversary morning.

We will be back...

Room Tip: Cottage rooms are quaint, probably worth paying the extra for the Lord Earl Grey for the room if a b...
