“Never go back”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

Used to visit regularly when it was Whitley Ridge and the food was superb with a fabulous choice of dishes at every course. We then ate there after the change to The Pig. The food was extremely poor. Lack of choice, very small portions. Greasy, horrid "piggy bites". No tablecloth or side plates so bread has to served directly onto the table - not very hygienic. Would never return.

“It's all about the garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

The dining room is in beautiful conservatory so you feel like you are sitting in the middle of the garden. The menu features lots and lots and lots of ingredients from their fantastic fruit herb and vegetable garden. Eggs etc are also from the garden. And almost all of the other food is locally sourced and absolutely delicious.

“5 star but not perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014 via mobile

If you earn average to a little above average wage or/and this type of venue is a one off treat. This is a 5 star time. Stop reading. You will love it.

I'm the above, but if you are a used to the finer things in life then let me point out some niggles.

Service- we weren't greeted at the door but were left to roam around looking for someone to tell us where to go. They aim for casual style but if you need two more minutes expect to wait 10 as you slip out of the system. The forced service charge (a personal issue) is probably not worth the 12.5% maybe a solid 8%.

Food- looks beautiful and in the most part tastes the same but some of the dishes are a little so so hidden beneath a theatre of flowers.

The grounds - brilliant and being able to walk round the kitchen garden adds to the magic. However pot holes in the drive and a sun room dining area that gets amazingly hot before vents are opened isn't ideal.

Would I revisit - maybe. I love the locally source/homegrown feel that they execute perfectly and I did come away excited about food. However below the stunning roses lie a few sharp thorns.

“Almost a perfect lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

We took a friend here for a birthday lunch and really enjoyed the experience. The location, general ambience and atmosphere are great and the food was superb. Amongst other dishes we loved the dressed crab, the vegetarian risotto and the pork chop, all perfectly cooked and presented. We also sampled several different wines from the extensive list and enjoyed them all. We did have some issues, however, with the slow service, 20 minutes from being seated before anyone took our order ( this was after we had already been in the bar area for 20 minutes with the menus before being seated) and a 35 minute delay between clearing away our first course and serving our main course. We also sent back a wine glass that had not been properly washed up. Our waitress very kindly gave us a glass of wine each on the house and refused to accept a gratuity. She explained that the kitchen had been caught out by a large number of orders arriving simultaneously. We also noted, however, that although there were a lot of serving staff serving our table only one waitress was actually allowed to take orders, etc, which we thought was rather inefficient. But, despite these niggles, we all felt that overall it had been very enjoyable. A reservation is essential.

“A superb dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Booked for a lazy Saturday lunch and we were blessed with the weather, gorgeous sunshine and the staff were happy to seat us outside instead. When things got a bit nippy they were quick to get blankets for us to put over our knees. The food was superb, something for everyone. A really eclectic and inventive mix of starters, mains excellent and beautifully presented, desserts delicious and a huge cheese board too. The wine list is extensive and they have a vast selection of local beers. Nice added extra is the massive swing in the grounds. Our waiter was verging on nonchalant, a little too relaxed perhaps but other diners may have interpreted it as cool. Unfortunately I left my cardigan there, but have contacted them and nothing was too much trouble and they are posting it back to London on the house. Well worth a visit, we will be back!
