“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

This was our second visit to The Pig and it was just as wonderful second time around. Firstly, if you haven't visited before its location is magnificent and the building stunning with beautiful gardens and well chosen sculptures in amongst the foliage. The staff are friendly, but informal, so although it is a 5 star experience, it doesn't feel stuffy. The restaurant itself is beautifully presented with an eclectic, shabby chic, French influenced style. It's the special little touches that impress: like smoked salt, rosemary scented olive oil in bottles and delicious butter presented in silver butter dishes on the tables when you arrive. A lot of the vegetables and herbs used in the cooking are grown on site, and you can tell. Our starters of home made tortellini with goats cheese, broad beans and peas was light, fresh and delicious and the New Forest blue salad with poached pears nuts and leaves....perfection. We both chose hake for the main with buttered Jersey Royals and a walled garden salad which was equally impressive. Pudding was a shared trio of rhubarb, fragrant, light and perfectly balanced. An utter delight....foodie heaven.

“Great fun”

Enjoyed a very pleasant meal at The Pig. This is not haute cuisine but is certainly the top end of "pub food". An interesting menu, very good service and a lovely location. Prices were sensible.

“Good food, good staff, good surroundings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

We went on a Sunday night and even then it was popular.

Lovely location and surroundings/decor.
Relaxed feel, no need to put you Sunday best on. Jeans and a shirt just fine.
Staff were polite and worked hard.
Menu was a good size without being over the top or lacking choice.
Food was good, good portion size and great quality.
Price was good for what we got.
No real complaints

We will go back

“Fabulous surroundings, Fabulous food, great service,”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

We were given a voucher by our son (Thanks Will) and went to celebrate out wedding anniversary. We have had a number of less than great meals to celebrate, but not on this occasion. I would advise getting in on an early sitting as it became a little crowded before we left.

Very pleasant surroundings, shabby chic as I would describe it. Birdsong drifting through the open doors (we had a perfect evening) The staff were pleasant and friendly, the drinks interesting and local. The food was locally sourced and superb. Beautifully cooked and presented, I was not able to fault it, neither was my wife. I came away having had a substantial meal, Not sampling the dessert menu (no room left) but fully sated.

It is not a cheap option (for our budget) but well deserving of the praise that others and now I are heaping on them.

“Disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

We celebrated a 40th birthday at the Pig in Brockenhurst on Sunday 18th May. The venue is stunning, and the service was good, however the steak that two of us ordered was inedible.
Noticing that we had both left our steaks, the waiter kindly offered our party free coffees, however this was little recompense for two expensive poor steaks. Having worked in the meat industry, I suggest the chef changes his source of sirloin steak. This was either not aged or from a dairy animal, or both.
