My husband and I stayed at this hotel as we have friends who live a stone's throw from it who couldn't accommodate us on this occasion. My overall opinion is that we would stay again however I really believe more could be done to improve the hotel with very little effort or expense. We asked for a quiet room with a bath which was provided. The room was at the very back overbooking the car park. The room was extremely small but having paid £60 incl breakfast, we were happy enough. However it became apparent after half hr that the heating wasn't working so not to be moaners, we got the extra blankets out of the wardrobe and expected that at some point the heating would come on- ! But it wasn't to be. I phoned the reception to ask if the heating was in fact on a timer and was told that it should be working. The receptionist suggested that we return to reception and he would reallocate us from the 'broom cupboard', which he duly did. Our second room was on the second floor , was much larger and at first appearance was a lovely room and the heating worked a treat. However on closer examination it wasn't as it first appeared. the corner standing lamp had its shade in tatters and it was so obviously broken that it can't have been missed by the maid service etc, the the shaving mirror in the bathroom was hanging by one screw on the wall, the sofa was pretty tired and worn, only one of the bedside lights were working and it wasn't the cleanest of rooms (though the bathroom was spotless) not a big deal in the scheme of things but all easily fixable and should be obvious to staff cleaning the rooms. I believe it's graded a three star hotel and I'm not sure what one should expect for that but for a few quid, all could be perfect in this particular room. Having enjoyed a night out at a local restaurant we were unsure of the breakfast timings on the Sunday so called to reception to be told they served till 10.30am. We duly appeared just before 10 to be told abruptly that breakfast was over. Having checked with reception I case I had misheard her, the timing was given as 10.30am again. We referred the attendant to the reception but she was adamant that 10 was the cut off and that was that so we returned to reception to repeat her message, was greeted by the same lady who had told us 10.30 twice, who shrugged her shoulders and said oh, I'll pass on the issue and continued about her business. While waiting for the lift we noted the breakfast attendant going to reception for something else and not a word was said between them about our conversation. Again, this could have been handled far more professionally by both parties. The hotel gives a highly professional appearance in the foyer on arrival, the staff are immaculately dressed at reception but it has to go beyond that ... The Hotel inspector is needed here!!
