We stayed for two nights at the Hoops Inn, very friendly welcome, felt chilled, very good service, excellent breakfast and good food in the restaurant / bar with good choices. We were a total party of 4 as friends came and stayed too and they were also impressed with the Inn, which had new bathrooms/showers. The only down side is the location, its on a fairly busy road (during the day) , our room (5) overlooked this road and there was a bit of noise from passing cars and lorries as the windows are only double glazed units in existing wood frames, the other thing is you can't really walk anywhere, you need your car or a cab to go to either Bideford, Appledore or Westward Ho for instance which is roughly 15-20 minutes away, hence deciding to eat again in the restaurant on our second night. Overall though we all enjoyed our stay and we couldn't fault the staff and their service

Room Tip: Room 5 had a four poster bed, good size room and very nice double shower in bathroom, the room is on...

We stayed in April for 2 nights. We found the staff were very, very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were spotless and tastefully decorated. The Hoops Inn served a delicious breakfast. The quality of food was so good we ate there both nights and the chef didn't disappoint, which is high praise when you consider the competition for pub/inn food in north Devon and Cornwall. The Hoops is situated on the A39, Its location makes it ideal for exploring the delights of Devon and Cornwall. We just can't wait to go back and visit in the summer when their beautiful garden is in full bloom. On the whole we just couldn't find fault with anything. A fabulous find!

My family booked several rooms here for 3 nights the week end before Easter. I was in a family room (no 17, I think) which was massive and very clean and comfortable.
We ate here on the first night and the food was very good; so good that we ate here again on the third night. The breakfasts were also lovely (simple but clearly made from very good quality produce).
I found the best aspect to be the welcome we received and the friendliness of all staff we met - bar staff, breakfast staff and evening dinner staff. Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a superb stay and, in particular, there was a young waitress, Hayley, who was an absolute delight. Friendly, personable, exceptinally helpful - overall we all had a great time and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Room 17 is huge - great for families with young children.

We stayed here with family over the Easter weekend. The rooms were lovely and cozy (don't expect large rooms in this quaint coaching inn!). Room 9 a twin had a fantastic new bathroom.. my kids had this one! We had room 10 a lovely double room.
The food was lovely. Breakfast cooked to order and plenty of it. Great pub grub with some special dishes too like Harissa lamb and Duck Breast. Something for everyone on the menu including a couple of lovely fish dishes.. We too arrived just after Sunday lunch service on Easter Sunday and the place was very busy. Not wanting a huge lunch as we were eating in the evening they made us lovely sandwiches.. no problem at all. The cream tea was also very tempting!!

What came across to me is everyone actually enjoyed working there. All the staff had smiles on their faces and greeted you when they saw you. . Its been tough there over the last year but the new managers seem to be pulling the place through and are working very hard.
Lovely garden outside the back of the pub to enjoy a pint and your meal when the sun is shining.
A place on our list to return to!

Room Tip: Room 9 for a great new shower!

We stayed here the night before catching the ferry to Lundy and it wasn't a good choice for that. Others in our party were staying at another hotel in Bideford and to meet them, we had to have a £15 taxi ride each way. Breakfast does not start until 8:30, the same time we had to be at the boat. We were promised a tray breakfast but this didn't appear.

Despite this apparently negative review, I thought the place itself was fine and the room more than adequate.

Stayed here last weekend for our 30th wedding anniversary-had a lovely weekend other than the weather.
The staff at this hotel could not be more helpful and friendly, everybody had a smile and took the time to pass the time of day.
The food was lovely, with a nice selection -breakfast was cooked to order and was always piping hot and very tasty-as with others who have reviewed this hotel we booked on a "Groupon
deal" but treated just like other guests.
We would like to say "Thank You" for the anniversary card that we had on our table at Dinner
on Saturday night-was a lovely touch.
All in all, we would not think twice to recommend this hotel to friend and family
