We have stayed in the converted barns at Woodland Cottages four times now, twice in Badger Cottage, and twice in Swallow. Swallow Cottage is slightly more spaceous, though Badger Cottage has a wonderful character with a lovely wooden spiral staircase and little balcony overlooking the living area.
Al and Tim were the perfect hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. Ben the dog was a great hit with our children!
The views from all of the cottages are unbeatable, all the way to Exmoor on the horizon. Each cottage has it's own little enclosed patio area, with table and chairs and parasol, and it is very tempting to stay put and soak up the view and the sun.
But there is plenty to keep you entertained nearby, from the fabulous beaches of Westwood Ho! and Croydd, to the quaint character villages of Clovelly and Ilfracombe, and the far reaching open spaces of Exmoor and Dartmoor. We cycled for miles along the Tarka Trail from 'Puffing Billy' at Great Torrington to the beautiful little coastal village of Instow - a scenic route along the estuary - a dis-used railway line, so very flat. The children loved it, and I managed to keep up!
Such a beautiful, peaceful spot, so safe, it's great for dogs and kids alike. We can't wait to come back again next year!
