“Brilliantly quaint....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

We were there as part of a large group gathering and I have to say we were treated as VIPs, nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel is old and quaint and as such has character and charm.

The location is magnificent, right on the cliffs edge at Hartland Quay. We stayed for two days, the first was overcast, windy and moody, the second was fine and sunny. Great atmosphere.

Thoroughly recommend this place....

Room Tip: ........... ask for room 17, it has an open sea view and a big bay window.

We have been to the Wreckers at Hartland Qyay a couple of times now and it never disappoints. Simply breathtaking location, steeped in history. I really feel like I have stepped back in time whenever I go, its almost like a secret cove. It is a wonderful slice of England untouched by the rash of trendyification going on in many parts of Devon and Cornwall. Go and enjoy the good pub grub, especially a steak, whilst it remains a quirky, homely haven by the sea .

I stayed here for one night on my way to Lundy. I would have been a great spot for watching the sunset if not for the fog! The hotel itself is quite old fashioned but was clean and comfy and had free wifi. The breakfast was a little limited for the size I the hotel, but did the job. The staff were friendly. The pub food next door is a bit pricey though and not a great range for veggies.

We have been coming to the Hartland Quay Hotel on and off for 23 years. Perfect for us with its solitary location, lovely walks and spectacular views. It's an ancient smugglers inn that still holds much of that old world charm.
The friendly, attentive staff and equally friendly village locals make this place very special to us.
The rooms are very comfortable and we always sleep well. We had room no.4 on this visit which had stunning sea views from the large bay window with comfortable seating that enabled us to just sit and watch the ever changing scenery.
Breakfast, lunches and evening meals are spot on being simple and plentiful.

Sadly this was to be our last visit together as my husband is terminally ill. It was our first choice for our very last holiday and one that was made perfect thanks to the kind and thoughtful staff. I cannot thank them all enough for making my husband so happy. Seeing him smile and laugh every day during our 4 day break will be a treasured and lasting memory.
I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

We stayed for a long weekend after a recommendation from some friends. We weren't t looking forward to it after reading some reviews but our friends had booked it and we didn't want to let them down. We knew it would be a bit dated do weren't so disappointed to find it so but the buildings are old and the location very remote... It was however very clean, comfortable and sound proof, we didn't hear a thing above the waves crashing on the shore.... Delightful. The breakfasts were excellent, the food from the wreckers bar was basic, homely, well cooked, plentiful and served hot, perfect after a day of walking the stunning coast path. We tried the food at the Anchor pub in Hartland and wished we hadn't bothered, burnt chips and steamrollered chicken were not at all appetising and neither was the atmosphere, we were the only diners. Give it a wide berth....

Returned in stormy weather and this is a WONDERFUL place to be in rough weather. Staff are so very friendly and the rooms are immaculately clean and warm even in inclement weather. Owners so friendly and it cascades down to every staff member, they are all absolutely lovely xxx

Room Tip: Room 4 had a bay window and stunning views xxx

People matter to the staff of this hotel and they go out of their way to look after you. Fantastic views, unfussy food and perfectly adequate hotel facilities make this the perfect place for a switch off. Don't tell everyone!
